I hope I like them. I really like turn-based RPG's so I'm not sure about the Gothic games.

I'm in the middle of replaying The Summoning (yeah for Dos Box!) , and that's a 1992 game.

I'm dabbling in Majesty 2 right now. I saved and now there's a bar at the bottom, moving very slowly saying "administering the census. Does that mean it's saving?? It's only half done and it's been 5-6 minutes!! WTF

It should work nearly immediately - if it takes more then few seconds, something is not right with programm. And yes, it's standard text during save/load/create game process.

Majesty 2 unfortunately still has some bugs (like crashing in final mission of Monster Kingdom campaign for me, if I kill certain enemy hero before other conditions are meant).
Use quicksave button often and you should avoid some bugged content.
