Will HoMMV have a Map Editor?

Unread postby Sir Alock » 14 Apr 2006, 10:37

Hi All: D/L the demo & I'm super pleased vs. the Beta. One question..."Will there be a Map Editor" in HoMMV? I always play SP maps...never really touched MP because of the timeframe. I hope we'll get one because this is what makes HoMM 3 & 4 stand the test of time. I hear no mention of it.

Any insight guys?

Alex

As far as I know, there will be a map editor.

Oh, I'm sure it will. HoMM without an editor is like pizza without a topping. ;)

Ubisoft/Nival would have to be insane to not include an editor. Unless they want the game to fail, that is.

It might not include an editor on release day, though.

If there's no editor, then it's hardly worth buying...I'm sure there will be one though..

A descent editor gives a greatly increased replayability, and Ubi know of this. The result is a game that can be made better by players/fans even if it should happen to be released as a mediocre game.

Fabrice is aware that we want a good editor, and I am sure he's given it some thought. He hasn't promised us anything though; I think his last response to the question was something like: "We'll see."

What does an editor for a game that's more than ten years old have to do with the sales of a Heroes game?

I don't think a random map-gen would work good terrain-wise when you have hightmapped terrain like heroes have now. The terrain is to advanced to make a computer understand how to generate it so it would be interesting for human players I think.

Actually, if you strip it down to the bare minimum the adventure map in H5 differs very little from that in H3 when it comes to gameplay-there's still inaccesible areas and trigger spots for objects. What might be difficult is generating maps that doesn't have tons of stuff stacked on top of eachother, which would make it look ugly as hell.

I agree...but I haven't heard anything mentioning it either. I hope we have a Map Editor with HoMMV upon it's release. I would be pissed if we only get one in a expansion pack around Christmas time.

Descent was an awesome game though.

I think I read somewhere that there wouldn't be a map generator available out of the box, but as a free download soon afterwards. Can't remember where I read this though.

There's a difference between a Random Map Generator and a Map Editor. Let's hope Heroes 5 comes out of the box with a Map/Campaign Editor. :)

Ah yes, the old generator/editor switcharooney. I was tired and made some typos we all wish could be undone. But they can't! We must live on and accept that I in fact heard that there will not be a map editor out of the box!

Though I still don't remember where I read it. Perhaps I need the help of royal cockroach neurosugreon Sir Kenneth Blattobea!

Course there's one:

Near the bottom under competitive and instense multiplayer, in the last sentence.

Godslayer: Good eye. Nice. That's the first time I have seen that & it's on Ubisofts website. There is new hope!
