">official site</a> has announced the return of VARN for the special adventure pack called "Pirates of the Savage Sea":
<i>"The map “A Princess of VARN”, contained in this Adventure Pack for Might & Magic Heroes VI, takes place shortly after the events of Legends of Might & Magic.
Penelope has been rescued from the Necromancers, but discovers things have taken a turn for the worse during her captivity. Her father, King Alamar, is dead, and his former vassals are now battling to conquer the throne. And the cabal of the Necromancers, which engineered the whole situation, is still up to no good.
Penelope will have to take arms to restore her kingdom and reclaim the Mandate of Heaven. Hopefully, she'll succeed in it..."</i>

Return to VARN
Is it a single map or a campaign?
Looks interesting though.

The LOMM part is wrong. LOMM takes place on Axeoth, not Varn.

It says "the map", Torur ... singular.

Re: Return to VARN
It's half-way correct. LoMM mission backstories take place on various MM worlds: Varn, Cron, Xeen, Axeoth, etc.MMXAlamar wrote:The LOMM part is wrong. LOMM takes place on Axeoth, not Varn.
Make you strong places to dwell and practice the evil of your arts. Build great monuments to stand through the ages and remind your followers of the task with which you have been charged. Use these halls of iniquity to perpetrate your schemes against the infestation that has taken the fields and lakes of this land from you, their rightful masters. @ XEL - the only LOMM map I remember that took place in Varn is Dungeons of Dragadune, which is nowhere near Castle Alamar. Well it's kinda ... anyway my point is there is no timeline for LOMM and it takes place primarily on Axeoth, so whoever made this campaign is very mistaken...

Tell that to someone with a Town Portal spellMMXAlamar wrote:@ XEL - the only LOMM map I remember that took place in Varn is Dungeons of Dragadune, which is nowhere near Castle Alamar.
Anyway I fail to see how it is relevant?
True, this is a choice I made because it allowed a (hopefully) good story. Now let's use Occam's Razor for a second.MMXAlamar wrote:there is no timeline for LOMM
Castle Dragadune is on VARN. The only known King of VARN is King Alamar. So it's logicial to assume that it is referring to King Alamar's daughter, not another unknown king.Dungeons of Dragadune:
"The once-abandoned Castle Dragadune is now been occupied by the forces of Evil. The King's daughter, Penelope, is being held hostage in Dragadune's dungeon, and it is up to the forces of Good to rescue her."
That's quite an assumption there, don't you think?and it takes place primarily on Axeoth
I know early drafts of Legends had an elaborate story taking place on Aalondor, one of the continents of Axeoth, but with the exception of one mention of King Rydric, nothing of it remains in the final game.
In the end, Legends is a game made by NWC, produced by JVC, so like it or not, the game that hit the shelves is canonical. The prototypes however remain unofficial.
If we take a closer look at the map descriptions of LoMM :
This is on XEEN.Temple of Bark:
"Deep inside the Temple of Bark lies the ancient Tree of Leesh - the focal point for the energies of that religion. However, it is said that he who destroys the heart of the tree shall permanently gain the powers of Bark for himself."
This could either be on AXEOTH or VARN (it says "the Ironfist family", not specifically Roland and Archibald's descendants).Blood Feud:
"Generations after Roland and Archibald struggled for the throne of Enroth, the Ironfist family has again been plunged into a blood war."
This appears to be on ENROTH. I might be mistaken but I seem to also recall mentions of a "Pleasant Valley" on CRON (in the backstory).Chateau Escape:
"Baron Von Ungo is known to take frequent extended vacations to his Pleasant Valley chateau. Thinking to finally overthrow the Baron, the forces of Evil have crept onto the grounds of Von Ungo's estate, waiting for the dawn to launch their attack."
This is on XEEN.Dragonblade:
"The fabled sword, Dragonblade, is rumored to be buried deep within the desert tomb of the Dragon Pharaoh, and the forces of Good and Evil find themselves in a race to recover it."
This is on XEEN.The Dragon Slayers:
"Prophecy speaks of a band of mortals who will slay Aragoth, the ancient Red Dragon and last true enemy of the Dragon Pharaoh of Xeen. Will you be the ones to fulfull this prophecy, or will you merely be Aragoth's next meal?"
This appears to be on AXEOTH, and more specifically on Aalondor.Dungeon Rescue:
"Having kidnapped the daughter of King Rydric II, the captors have taken refuge in a long-unused dungeon near the town of Cliffside. The King's forces have tracked the Princess to the town, and now must attempt a rescue!"
This is on ENROTH.Fahl'tee Tower:
"The Royal Princess of Phynaxia is being held hostage in the Tower of Fahl'tee, and the heroes of Good have launched an attack in the hopes of freeing her."
This is on TERRA.The Hideout:
"The daughter of Zealot, King Righteous, has been kidnapped and is being held in the town of Fountain Head for a few days until she can be delivered to King Malefactor, the Zealot family's main rival. However, loyalists of House Zealot have tipped off the King to the Princess's whereabouts!"
This is on TERRA.Isle of Fire:
"Fame, fortune, and rare magical artifacts. Why else would anyone dare to brave the Isle of Fire and challenge a fearsome dragon?"
This is on XEEN.Secrets of the Sphinx:
"In the Northern Sphinx of Xeen, two groups have come seeking the fabled Scarab Sword, but only one party will be able to leave with it. Will it be yours?"
This is on TERRA.Sword in the Stone:
The Sword of Ungodly Power has been kept within the city of Pierpont for over a hundred years. Today its safety is threatened as two rival groups have arrived to lay claim to it.
The rest could be taking place on AXEOTH or other worlds, there are no clues permitting a definitive answer.
Anyway you're free to consider this map to be simply fan-fiction if you like

Re: Return to VARN
No, it was on VARN. That's the overworld part just outside of Sorpigal. It was quite pleasant, actually, given that it's a fairly low-danger place. And then NWC decided to make a joke about it in MM6Marzhin wrote:> This appears to be on ENROTH. I might be mistaken but I seem to also recall mentions of a "Pleasant Valley" on CRON (in the backstory).

Return to VARN
@ Marzhin , rescuing Penelope has no context, there are lots of princess rescue maps. I understand the context of the Heroes VI map, but it does not take place after the events of LOMM. Maybe after the events of the map, (but the map is re-playable) but not LOMM itself since there is no timeline.
By the way, you should tell Ubisoft to start selling LOMM again. They are doing a **** job taking care of that game. I sent them a petition last year with over 50 names of people who still play LOMM and wanted to see its revival, and we got no response.
With due respect to you and the Might and Magic team at Ubisoft, the players of LOMM love our game and we only get by through social networking since Ubisoft has neglected this game for so long.

I don't think Ubisoft's priority is paying attention to a last century game with a base of 50 people. I would do the same thing in their position.

No Corlagon, just put it on GOG at least. It's a fun game and some people love to play it.

Return to VARN
I am actually a bit excited about VARN. As long as they stick with NWC canon and forget all about the Ashan cosmology.
As for the stuff about LoMM, here are my thoughts:
- It's a failed investment and 50 signatures is way too little (it'd probably take 10k+ to even get some sort of attention)
- The released LoMM has no fixed setting
By the way, say hi to BLAMMO for me.

Yeah haha I wish we had 10k players, then Ubi would probably monetize the LOMM title. They are still *******s for having no outreach, but I can understand they have more important financial endeavors than a 10 year old game.

Even 10k is not a lot, since it takes much more sales than that to turn this into a profit. Do you know how expensive programmers are?
By the way, I am surprised you got 50 signatures. How many are left in the game?
