<p>The M&M series is a given; we all love that, and over the recent months (and years), Ubisoft have released several packages containing a selection of the old games. In War: Resolution, In Defeat: Defiance, In Victory: Magnanimity, In Peace: Goodwill.
Since CH is in-part about strategy games, I think we should recommend Galactic Civilizations 2. It has an excellent single-player experience with an AI that keeps up with a human (without cheating) better than I've seen before. I wouldn't recommend GalCiv1 though after playing 2.
Peace. Love. Penguin.

Etherlords 2 is just wonderful in my opinion and should appeal to Heroes fans who also like King's Bounty.
Also, Disciples, Age of Wonder, Kohan, Seven Kingdoms, King Arthur, Tactics Ogre (not PC :-( ), Lords of Magic, Birthright, Hammer of the Gods, Fantasy Wars/Eleven Legacy. They are all classic to modern games/series that would appeal to Heroes fans, I think.
Oh, and King of Dragon Pass, which is also coming out in a special edition for Iphone.

Civilization 5 needs adding. Other than that maybe some other Turn Based strategies which aren't HoMM or Civ, such as Battle for Wesnoth.

How about some NWC oldies like Nuclear War and Planet's Edge?
I have been playing Kings Bounty AP for a week and a half now. It's fast becoming one of my fav games. Very much like the Heroes Games. Disciples 2 is a must as well.
A friend made an interesting comment yesterday. He said that a game like Heroes, should not be made by a company like Ubi, because they are too big and do not care enough about the game. I think there is a grain of truth to that. I think that, as good as the game looks, it will get boring too fast. They do seem to be making a good effort though. I still maintain that each faction should have had a different number of units in each. They really needed to break the game out at this point.

I loved Kohan. Really, I liked all the Kohans - and I'm the only person I know that has even heard of the game. I'm so glad someone else in the world knows of it. Hopefully they'll eventually make another, but somehow I doubt it.
I'd suggest Arcanum (loved the world) and Age of Wonders. The Baldur's Gate series as well.

Anyway, I think there are few good games to list:
- King's Bounty: The Legends (and addons)
- Age of Wonders (and Master of Magic)
- Disciples 1-2 (D3 seems to be a little better which each addon but it still is far from D2)
- Fantasy Wars (and Fantasy General)
- Galactic Civilization 1-2 (and Master of Orion 1-2)
- Drakensang (especially The River of Time)
- Majesty (second one is not so good but it worth play only for Monster Kingdom addon)
- Spellforce 1-2

Kohan was truly a marvel game for it's time. 2nd one wasn't as charming as first (it was still great), but rest assured, the game is not forgotten

I can see you have some classic RPGs there. I'm baffled as to why Planescape: Torment is not on the list then! I doubt you need a reason to recommend that timeless piece.

The only other games that caught me as the HOMM series (4 excluded ;P ) were Thief 1 and 2

Any of the "total war" games would be nice. What can I say they are good games.

I would personally recommend Anno 1404 if it isn't already there. D Critic praised the game, saying that "with up-to-date graphics, a great soundtrack, and great gameplay, there’s a lot to love about this game."
Don't worry if things are going badly today. They will be much worse tomorrow.
I limit my recommendations to the games that are either turn based strategy or western rpg and have fantasy theme, to keep them somewhat similar to M&M.
Strategy
Strategy
- Fantasy General
+ Good tactical design
+ Lots of different units and viable army setups
+ Upgradable army with research
+ Army units also gains experience and there is moral system
+ Soundtrack
Warlords 2 Deluxe
+ Lots of different scenarios ranging from fantasy to scifi and from Napolean wars to Rise of the Rome
+ Diplomacy
Warlords 3: Darklords Rising
+ Same warlords formula plus heroes have more chances for development
+ Heroes can cast overland spells
+ Towns offer multiple different quests suitable for heroes of different level
Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic
+ Combines elements of Heroes of Might and Magic, Master of Magic and Warlords series
+ Researchable spells and abilities
+ While graphics look outdated they have this nice mystical feeling to them
+ Lots of different races
King's Bounty: The Legend
+ Good mixup of rpg adventure and strategy/tactics
+ Nice soundtrack and art
King's Bounty: Armored Princess
+ Same as above
Disciples 2 Gold
+ Incredible artwork
+ Campaigns have fascinating story
- King of Dragon Pass
+ Different and successful take on rpg
+ World of Glorantha is captured nicely
+ Music and artwork though there should be more of both
Betrayal At Krondor
+ Story is fascinating and it is written exemplary
+ Huge open world with plenty of things to do
Baldur's Gate 2
+ Lots of things to do and explore
+ Companions are mostly well done (in 2 at least)
+ Combats system is good and battles are challenging
+ Soundtrack
Planescape Torment
+ Story
+ Soundtrack
+ Companions are both fascinating and tie nicely to the story and main character
Never Winter Nights 2 and Mask of the Betrayer
+ Combat system
+ While story starts slow in OC it builds up nicely
+ Mask of the Betrayer story and companions are both about Torment level
+ D&D rules aren't as restrictive as in Baldur's Gate
+ Lots of customization and different classes in character development
Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
+ Mix of Steampunk and fantasy is very unique as far as games go
+ Story is both well written and dephtful
+ Huge world with lots of things to explore and do
+ Rpg system is well done.
+ Violin music
Witcher Enchanced Edition
+ Soundtrack
+ Story with nice number of plot twists
+ World setting
+ In some parts scenery is breathtaking (particularly the 4th chapter)
Witcher 2 Assassin of Kings
+ Some of the best graphics seen to date
+ Soundtrack and story
Dragon Age: Origins
+ Companions
+ Combat system

I would recommend keeping track of Elemental: Fallen Enchantress, but since the release is still half a year away, it's not that relevant here.

Thanks for all your input and keep it coming. I will keep updating the marketplace page and add new games to it - particularly games that are available on both the US and UK branch of Amazon is what I'm looking for. Shame about NWN2.
In War: Resolution, In Defeat: Defiance, In Victory: Magnanimity, In Peace: Goodwill.
Fantasy General!?!?!!?!
Wasn't that back in the DOS days???
Does the original Kings Bounty game run on Win 7?
Temple of Elemental Evil was good too, but quite short.
For RPG's, of course there's the M&M series of games, but it's hard to top Wizardry 8.
I got bored with Drakensang. I found it too hard to remember where everything was in the cities. Too much aimless wandering.

Added Deus Ex, Civ 5, Witcher 2 and the Thief collection.
The retro games are a nice touch, but they need to be in stock at Amazon to be posted here.

But if you can get them (and get them to run) Wiz 8 is best if you have a party you start in Wiz 6 and bring forward!Variol wrote: For RPG's, of course there's the M&M series of games, but it's hard to top Wizardry 8.
Of course, Wiz6 is in EGA, so you may not be able to stomach the graphics.
