Now that people have got their beta clients, we can see the game data files are in .orc packs.
Previous Black Hole games' data files are .ork packs, for which the extraction tool orkdec can be found here. In this format, each file is encrypted using its own file name as key, and a list of all file names is required in order to extract data from them. This is done here by using orkdec_files_loader to obtain the list from the main program.
Unfortunately, orkdec_files_loader doesn't work with the current H6 beta client. Without the file list, we cannot even confirm whether .orc is the same format as .ork.
All these tools already come with their source code. I think we just need some programmer who can build on this knowledge. If we are lucky and .orc really is the same as .ork, we just need to find a new method to get the file list.
Any programmer interested in decrypting the .orc files?
To creating mods obviously. There I really doubt that BH will be supporting it, even for MoCH it was close to impossible. Better for them to make part of the game open - moddable. More than just a map editor but less than hacking their crypted files. Simply to include mod support for creating a great scenarios.Kalah wrote:What would be the purpose of this?
