Heroes VI Delay Q&A

Unread postby Kalah » 04 May 2011, 09:22

<img src="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/images ... wshorn.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10>With the pressure from the fans, you would think that most would be pleased with a delay of <i>Heroes VI</i>'s release, but ever since Ubi announced that the game will be pushed back to September to allow for polishing and balancing, the official boards have been buzzing with anger. The producers have taken the time to <a href="/http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6 ... >answer</a> some of the Communities' more pressing questions regarding the delay, and basically, it goes like this:

<b>1. Why delay the game?</b>

Playtesting showed the game's potential, but it needed more time to correct the flaws and balance the game. Instead of toying with the fans, Ubi felt that the news should be published as soon as it was confirmed.

<b>2. Will they use the extra time to add a sixth faction?</b>

No. It would mean too much extra stuff to add in too little time, and all the new stuff would have to be debugged, balanced, polished ... So not possible. However, they do hint towards a definite expansion of the factions in the future.

<b>3. Wasn't the Beta supposed to begin on April the 20th?</b>

I'll just quote directly here, for those who haven't got the message yet: <i>"The starting date for the Beta was never officially stated by anyone at Ubisoft or Black Hole"</i>. They do, however, explain how the rumour started ... it was the <a href="/viewtopic.php?t=11858">RSS feed</a> leak, which was caused by a bug. The actual start date will obviously be published asap.

The Q&A ends with a lead-in towards more info to be released over the coming days and weeks: The full information about the Reputation advanced classes, artefacts, Neutral creatures ... and also more <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/777">heroes</a> - with portraits, bios and specialties.

I have not read the angry comments, but I do find it surprising. From what I read a couple of months ago, most people were not planning to buy the game anyway.
People just need something to gripe about, I think.

Heroes VI Delay Q&A

People are going to complain regardless. If they had released it a week early, there would be complaining... probably not nearly as much. I'm a little bummed that I'll have to wait an extra three months, but that's the price you occasionally pay for extra bug detection.

if there was smth to play(demo, beta), im sure all the comments would've been only constructive ones; keeping the beta for some "experts" to polish it, gives community doubts.

Nothing un-usually i think.

If the overhauling they are doing is large enough, then a beta would serve no purpose until the changes are implemented. If the changes are simply "does this creature do 2-5 damage or 3-6 damage", then there is no reason not to beta, but if instead the problem is "OMG, the AI can't fight its way out of a paper bag," then that needs to be fixed first.

The delay is for the best. It's gonna be a great game and worth the wait.

Heroes VI Delay Q&A

Unread postby Orfinn » 04 May 2011, 16:48

Of course is the delay for the best no matter how much or little they add and polish, as long as they do it! Seriously.....

I've been very passive here around lately, but I have been a stalker oh my yes I have. Aaand sometimes, by a rough conclusion of mine based by forums here and at HC. I think a great deal of the M&M fans (especially new ones) are some of the most demanding, nitpicking and harshest of all the game franchise fan communities out there.

And NOT in a good way. Because, sure we should demand and nitpick in a constructive way to support and help the developers/publishers. But Im not seeing much of that lately...

In fact, it seems the poles have shifted. With H5 it was UBI/Nival who kinda were the reserved nutters who seemed to ignore and be really harsh against us fans. Now when they infact seems to genuinely want to do a good job (both UBI and BH + Marzhin), the fans are whimpy on ALOT of things, some few with a very good reasons and ideas, but most with incredible lame statements and/or arguments.

I dont feel much for being on the forums anymore like before. Just saying for example that if I love and give a good explanation about how awesome the H6 Pit Fiend or Necropolis Ghost are IMO. I wouldnt be surprised if some smartass comments jump my throat and demand that THEIR opinion is what matters, concluding that Im and/or the ones responsible for the new game are morons or worse.

I agree, it seems most posts here are players 'new' to the homm franchise ranting about what they don't like about h6 and how it's going to fail unless they make their ideal version of the game

Wrong, wrong wrong. As a software engineer, I can promise you that they aren't holding back the beta just for the sake of it. If they think it needed polish, it almost certainly did. Remember that Ubisoft has self-interest working here - they want to make a good game just as much as we want to play one, and if it's not ready, I trust them to make that call.

Heroes VI Delay Q&A

@Orfinn

I agree completely. I noticed this with the Q&A and the most recent Chronicle post with Marzhin. Personally, I think it's pretty neat that Marzhin is involved working on the game and is continuing to contribute to us here on CH. I wish I could understand his accent a little better, but you'll have that.

And in the interest of full disclosure, I'm a new fan to the Heroes series. My first real taste of it was with H5. I've done program testing and could tell how buggy things were, but I still enjoyed playing the game. I'm truly excited for H6 and can't wait until it's released. So much so, in fact, that I didn't really give my wife any chance to say "no" when I wanted to pre-order. My only criticism regarding the pre-order to Ubisoft is one that has been mentioned before: Spend the extra money to release the physical items to those of us here in the US.

A 3 month delay for technical reasons means some sort of ugly bugs... ones that very likely make a beta a bad idea.

And any gameplay changes that can be implemented in less then 3 months aren't gonna be very extreme...

No, they want to make a game that has good sales... and if you paid any attention to life while living you'd know that in no way that means it has to be good to get sales.

IMO new release date is more marketing decision then developers'. There are probably some bugs to fix ASAP but I think game could be release at middle of Summer - but it is not good time for selling game (most of players are on holidays). September on the other hand is more likely good selling time... so I guess that game being postponed till September is not only from technical reasons but also from marketing.
