Modern RPG worth play?
Modern RPG worth play?
Anybody known modern RPGs which resemble classic as M&M or give the same fun from play?
I'm interested in the reply as well. C'mon folks!

RPGs died about 5 years ago.
so there are no modern RPGs at all.
there are only action games with elements of role-playing and thats all.

As far as RPGs go, they don't make them like might and magic anymore. The closest thing we currently have is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but it's nowhere near the same.
To be honest, just have a look through all of Bioware's games and you basically can't go wrong picking any of them. They make the best RPGs nowadays.
I'd reccommend if you want a great RPG, play get Baldur's Gate II. It's quite old but it's amazing.

Maybe its not that bad, i look around at rpg database http://www.jrkrpg.pl/index.php and found something about Redshift Quest, it look like classic M&M 3-5 (unless must find way to emulate pocket pc, but maybe windows version also exist) Similar games, Redshift: Legacy, Rake In Grass: Undercroft.

Is hard to find classic cRPG our days. most of them are hybrids(action
mostly with rpg elements). And if you look smth like MnM you are doomed,
party based cRPGs with first person view and turn based combats seems that
don't sell enought and they skiped it.
But even this new hybrid genre has to offer some good titles imo.
Risen is a good example (is the continue of the good old Gothic series)
Mass Effect 1+2 are great games imo also(yes I know, action mostly but
still great atmosphere and charachter backround with few RPG elements).
I read at a pc magazine we will see more classic RPG titles at 2011 but nothing like MnM or Wizardry style sadly, for those type of games have faith and patience and w8 for the fun projects(like MnM X).
Edit: Btw, move to Hall of Heretics imo

Dragon Age: Origins and The Witcher Enchanced Edition.
Both are excellent games which will get sequel in coming months.

When considering what I think about old RPGs:
What's the best Might & Magic game?
Gonna look it up on youtube and see if it would be fun. I suspect I would think it to suck royally though.
Update

It doesn't work to paste youtube windows here! Have you disabled that function??
Does the hand mean that the game is paused?
I like the animations when they get hit.
The womans "cmon! We need to get out." made me laugh though. Love the lipsync
- Baldurs Gate II was complex and hard to play and battles went way too fast
- Icewind Dale II was hard to grasp and its battles were in ultrarapid
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is good though

Haha, he's hilarious.
Jesus saves, Allah forgives, Cthulhu thinks you'd make a nice sandwich.
Hmm... I think Drakensang:The Dark Eye and Drakensang: The River of Time could count as they are created as old school RPGs in terms of game mechanics.
Also I play Dungeon Lords which is 1 person RPG similar to Wizards & Warriors game (well, it was created by D.W. Bradley - so if you know W&W and Wizardry series, you should know what to except from this game).

Isn't Dungeon Lords 3d person? And is mostly action-rpg, and tbhAvonu wrote: Also I play Dungeon Lords which is 1 person RPG similar to Wizards & Warriors game (well, it was created by D.W. Bradley - so if you know W&W and Wizardry series, you should know what to except from this game).
is a bad game that came out unfinished, only the gold edition is at
least playable, but still D.W.Bradley has done at past much better
games.

Dungeon Lords CE 1.5 (so I guess it's fully patched). It has action elements but IMO it is still more RPG then Action-RPG.
Character development is nice but you need a lot of patience to play this game. There are lots of annoying things like respawn points for monsters, which are placed and work strange - each time when you cross them (even in fight), they spawn another group of monsters - geez, who was so "wise" to use such "nice" solution?
And yes, 3rd person not 1st, and indeed Bradley had created better games.

There's Dragon Age, which is like Baldur's Gate but it's really dumbed down.
Neverwinter Nights 2 is the last mainstream "classic" RPG.
If you really want "classic" RPG's, you'll have to go with indie developers like this one:

Re: Modern RPG worth play?
Not many answers possible here, no, but I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Eschalon: http://basiliskgames.comkoval321 wrote:Anybody known modern RPGs which resemble classic as M&M or give the same fun from play?
Book II of a 3-part series came out early 2010. Basilisk Games is an independent game maker who tries to recapture the quality of oldfashioned strategy games. Although it's basically a one-man project, you wouldn't guess that from playing the games; they're made to a high professional standard.
Demo's are available, so it's easy to give it a try.

Maybe not a modern game but...
If you haven't play yet, try Divine Divinity.
I bought it about 4 years ago but started to play severals days ago - man, it is good. It has TPP view, many quests, very un-linear story.
You can get it on GOG (there is a remastered version).
Second part is Beyond Divinity and third - Divinity II. But I haven't play it yet Must finish first part first
