On the Aesthetics of the Adventure Map
What is meant by "interactive landscape"? Swamp lands creating disease for hero's creatures, etc?

No, interactive would mean the landscape could be changed as a result of the player's actions, e.g. in Age of Wonders 2 you can cast the Ice Age spell, which freezes the crops and rivers... or gain a Path of Decay ability and destroy the woods and fields in your wake... or cast Rejuvenate and thus undo the first two effects!
Such changes on the adventure map affect the gameplay, of course - not only your global strategy but also your combat tactics. Naturally, the feature shouldn't unbalance the game as a whole but add certain depth.
P.S. Perhaps you are more familiar with Warcraft 3, where you can cut the forest in order to get resources and create passages...
