Have you tried patching it?

Nope, but I managed to read the error window by using winflip. The error was a missing d3d9 (or something like that) so I updated my vga driver and the directx. Now it's working properly.

Thanks,
I just install it on my new PC and the same thing happened. I will try the same thing...

If someone could provide the best link for the patch(es) that would be helpful.

It looks like I need to install all 4of them; right?

# H5 patch 1.4 - patch for Heroes V, to be installed directly to the game.
# H5 patch 1.41 - patch for Heroes V, to be installed after 1.4.
# H5 patch 1.5 - patch for Heroes V, to be installed after 1.41.
# H5 patch 1.6 -

I did install 1.01 already.

Are those patches just for the original H5 (ergo not the expansions)?
I've bought that "Heroes of Might and Magic - Complete edition" last year, I think and it keeps crashing.
Not necessarily at start-up, but sometimes after quite a few turns as well.
TotE does the same thing, even after I installed that patch for it.

The ones Variol are talking about are for regular H5 yes. Have you checked any firewall may have running to see if its allowing it to run? You could also try reinstalling. If that doesnt help it could be an issue with your OS at which point I have no idea what to do.

I don't go online with the game, so firewall settings shouldn't matter, should they?

I have had no problems lately. I'm waiting for Tote to arrive in the mail.

Depends on the firewall some will stop a program from running if its not set to allow it to run.

I've bought a UPS to flatten out the peaks in the power(?), should have thought of that before, but the electricity over here is kinda strange, so that could have been causing it as well. Thanks though!
