h3 grid & shadows

Unread postby Pol » 09 Oct 2009, 17:46

Should we start a contest, to create new shadow brushes? :P

It's a pretty easy, there's my set. Unpack, use fe G.I.M.P. and throw here your own brush!
(The space is limited as well as you have only two colors, I think. Thanks to GrayFace for inspiration and first template.)

I first thought you extracted them from H3sprite and managed to change the contents in def file containing the pcx single frame animation for hexgrids.

But when you said that it works in data folder just like that, then it is from H3bitmap - how do the grid pcx files call? (i am lazy to search and somehow can not remember them in H3bitmap)

You're more lazy than it seems. If you would just click on the link with my set..

Chronologically:

Code: Select all

CCellGrd.pcx
CCellShd.pcx
:D

PS And I still think that you should click there.

Hmm, can I use your thread for asking a tip please? I see you know how to work with those pcx.

Here is my problem:

I have to modify the shadows for a city object:
Image

So I extracted the corresponding bmp's from lod and created new ones, using Photoshop
Image

Well, the new image has the right shape and 0.255.255 cyan around so it should be transparent. The result is fantastic :hanged::

Any idea on this procedure?

I think that photoshop messed with your color table. Anyway I used GIMP for this, its simplicity is best to prevent your results being screwed.

Looking at one of my images:
cyan 0,255,255
"shadow" 210,180,110
256 colors in table, 2 used, first one is the cyan and on the position of 96 is the shadow color. That I think should not matter but first one and perhaps a few behind them could. Especially the first color - there is h3 engine sensitive.

And I think there is way how to prevent "optimizing" color tables in photoshop or photopaint however I don't remember. (Owning Corel so used photopaint in the past.)

I never used Gimp....maybe you could tell me if you get some free time and wish to give a try on those 2 bmp sources (placed in DATA folder they give same result as in LOD). I could send them to you, if you get a solution to create the new object shadow on town screen it will be a big step, as for now even 3.59 team could not give an answer on how it works.
