Afaik this is a vanilla mm7 problem and has nothing to do with any of the 2 mods. At least with the latest patch version, nothing of the sort occurs in MM7. Yes, because you are going to need them. You should not go into some areas until your party is well developed. These games should take months to finish. Because it takes time to develop your party strange enough to handle some of these areas.

For now I'll stick to KTCS (Barbarian Thief Acolyte Mage ) and get to know this mod better as I do like the changes (except the free bows of carnage).
