Your story has inspired me to jump right into it too. But I'm afraid I'm already stuck. I took the text file "sptraits" that I downloaded from the "balance" zip, and modified the damage on a few spells. But when I went to test it on a map, there was no change in damage when I cast the spell.

But I also noticed that the spell "death ripple" before I made any changes had a damage value of 10. I assume that this is 10xpower. I'm pretty sure without the "balance" file, death ripple used to deal 5xpower. However, when I cast death ripple, it was still dealing 5xpower instead of 10x. Is the balance mod not working for some reason, or am I just really dumb. :S I could have just been mistaken of it's value because it was hard to read all the columns of text. I was using excel to read it and made the changes in the text file.

I hope this is not too confusing to read. And I also hope I'm not bothering you will all these posts. You guys have already helped me so much... :baby:

Wow, I can't believe you went through all that trouble for me! I hope you didn't spend too much time on it, because ByteBandit had already directed me to the codes for the portraits.

I think I have a dumb question though. If I want to make a portrait of "Rissa" for example from the list, will I need a program like photoshop that ByteBandit mentioned earlier? I'm so silly that I tried to convert each individual portrait from the sheet using "save as." :|

The Charity portrait looks really nice. I'm definitely going to use it. Thank you! :-D

It did IrfanView and it did quite fast :D

?
If you want to use a different portrait fo Rissa, you need to seek which number it has> HPL038AL.PCX and HPS038AL.PCX first must have 58x64 and the second 48x32px.

Secondly grab one image, or capture it from the sheet, using IrfanView once again and put him into data folder. Rename it to match the Rissa, check dimension and format, must be pcx. Run the game new Rissa will be in :D

So generally, because we precreated portraits for you, you will don't need to use Photoshop. But if you will wish to create your owns, and IrfanView crop&resize&convert ability would be insufficent you will really need to strech for some image editor. GIMP is free, Photoshop is best and here are many in the rest.

Great! Here is the little one: Image

Oh, now I see! I can't believe I couldn't figure that out by myself.

Do you have any comment about the post at the top this page about "sptraits", and "crtraits"?

I can't thank you guys enough. You're really amazing! :proud:

It should work, but I have no time look at it atm, here will be some restrictions possibly.

Could you tell me if I'm cropping the portraits in the easiest way?

I use the "create custom crop selections." I put in the approximate cooridinates of the portrait I want to crop and set the width and height at 58 x 64. Then I "crop selection" and save it as pcx.

It's very time consuming, mostly because of finding the right cooridinates. I was just wondering if I'm doing this the most efficient way.

Edit: Is it also possible to change the names of the heroes in the game?

Right, probably, do not forget that here are predoned portraits, so you don't need to crop portraits from sheets. The crop selection can be moved by draging with right mouse button.

Just few seconds and you have it> Image

No problem, your calls had been heard  ""

* Good Question, yes, you can, I uploaded the files where it can be done. > hotraits.txt&herobios.txt

LOL. You responded to my post at the same time I had just finished editing it. What are the chances? Ha ha.

Okay, I saved my images as pcx and put them in the data folder after renaming them, but when I tried playing, the characters portrait was just a black screen with a bunch of crazy colorful dots. The portraits that I downloaded from MA6 work fine, but the ones I did do not. I hope I didn't resize all those pictures for nothing...

Image --> Decrease Color Depth --> 256 Color (8 BPP)

or batch it

File --> Batch Conversion/Rename --> Advanced --> CHANGE COLOR DEPTH 256 Color (8 BPP)

:D Ain't it better now?

Actually, the default setting was already on 256 and I had the problem mentioned above. However, I did lower this value to 16 and then it the portrait showed pretty good. Then I tried custom 128 and it was showed pretty good too.

Pol, what would I do without you? Can't forget ByteBandit too. :creative:

Glad that it worked second time. :-D Personally, for me, I have IrfanView set to 24bits depth, so I always need to decrease colours.

* The game itself is running in 16bits colours palette but 8bits is maximum per part. So I suppose, that here will be some overall palette, we have one palette in our achives so it may be the solution, but I never get yourself to look at it, I'm afraid, I haven't time for yet. *

It's a pleasure to help you get the photos you want in your game. If you create original portraits for HoMM3, send them to either Pol or me, we'll look them over and if they work and look good, we'll post them on BBVI with your name attached to the download.

Pol has just added some trait files, I believe, to BBVI. We'll be adding them as we get them.

Pol is right about the size of portraits (large & small) with his dimensions and he is right about using the 256 color(very important!).

And I suppose you don't need Photoshop. I just happen to have it and that's what I use is all.

.....And sorry to hear about a certain trait file not working properly for you. I used to use them a lot, but with WoG I generally tamper with rescripting something to make it do what I want it to do. Or ask help on how to do it.

.....And Pol? What do you think about adding pre - made RMG texts to our groups on Camp 2? Something I've been pondering in the back of my mind. Just want to get your view on it and see if it's worthwhile.

I have my own idea...I like to see Heroes III heroes in Heroes V. Perhaps that will bring back the 'Heroish'feeling in the game. :D

First stars on the sky. Here's an index file and here's place where to grab the portraits.

Summary: Presented are Casey&Andy, some from Heroes2, and few of others, like from Royo, etc...

Yes, h2 is superior. I tested and repaired few portraits (mystix, nagaqueen, golem, imendo-aquanaut). Must confess that I have no time to test all of them and if any artifacts occur is usually sufficient to replace that color by any close which is already presented in the picture.

I added required trait files, to change name and bio of the hero. But I didn't modified them.

Voted for Enough Heroes already.

Heroes III did in fact bring a number of the old (Heroes II) ones back. This is especially true with Add-ons Armageddon's Blade and the Shadow of Death. Perhaops the most prominent is Gem who has her own campaign (in AB) and is still trying to forget Succession Wars filled traumas haunting her dreams. And we all remember Lord Haart, the valiant knight from Enroth's court whose fate&choices are of major importance to the whole Restoration of Erathia. He is also featured on Armageddon's Blade and the Shadow of Death.

These are just examples, other well known guys are also found walking the lands of Antagarich. You know their names, I'm sure. ;)

I silently upgraded my heroes patch, hopefully here won't be no more color artifacts. (Games dislike groups of bright colors over 244 to 255, pushing it down to 239 solves that.) And I changed names and bios. Unpack to Data directory.
(h2 heroes, mm3 figures, C&A, royo and few of raytrac...)

Forgotten Heroes project - grab here.

@Yurian Stonebow
Main idea of Forgotten Heroes patch is to remove heroes which escaped to H4 land and refresh them by adding others from other homm+mm games or free art. To get something new, not connected with dead storyline.
