RPG Signup

Unread postby Mytical » 12 Sep 2006, 14:08

Ok taking signups for a forum rpg. I was told that as long as I could commit to being here every day, I could attempt this. Once signup is complete, the actual rpg thread will start. When you sign up please state what kind of class/race you wish to be if interested. Also I have some preliminary rules, but please PM me (do not post this on the thread) if you have additions.

1) limit of 1 character per person, however the storyteller (i.e. whoever was chosen as GM) could limit what races/classes permited, and/or put restrictions on races/classes.

2) Keep it clean. This is to be fun for all, not a sleaze fest. Also Mods have the Black Lightning of Ixnaying, which trumps GM and/or any other power/ability/ect regardless..and they WILL use it .

3) if you are not part of the story, please refrain from ruining it for everybody else. Also if you are (except GM or Mods for obvious reasons) keep in character..this is a RPG and should be treated as such.

4) All characters will start at level 1, however if you have an old favorite the GM might let them have a cameo (which means they will show up and give advice but not fight for or give stuff to characters).

5) All gm and mods rulings are FINAL. If you loose a favorite character, please don't wine about it, these things happen. To protect the flow of the game anybody who's character dies can get a replacement character of similar level, and anybody just entering will be of similar level. However if starting a new one or just joining, you don't just get a magical item or something just because everybody else has one (they earned those ).

6) When posting to keep the flow of 'combat', if in combat, post your next 6 actions at least..keeping in mind not all of them maybe possible for one reason or another. Since it would be impossible to roll for every action, the GM will do the figuring of success and failure. They will do this honestly and fairly. Also post must come within 48 hrs of the GM's post, but if you don't get it in dont worry, it will just be considered that your character was not officially present for this and will not be harmed, or loose anything. But they won't benifit from the encounter either.

7) I am not sure about allowing 'evil' characters in this, neutral deffinately, but since we dont want anything to break up the gameplay or cause tension between characters. I will leave that to the Mods and GM.

8) All non-visual actions would have to be sent privately to the GM, since regardless of intensions people tend to react to things they could not possibly know. (ie if there pocket is picked, ect).

Also, though the classes/races are based off of the D&D variety, this wont be true D&D. First, that's copywrited, and second the sheer volume of numbers is mind boggling. It will be more as those old books choose your own adventures. I will use random number generator and common sense to determine how effective an action is. If you are a fighter in plate and try to jump onto a chandalier your chances of success will be a LOT lower then a nimble thief trying to do the same. Won't be doing the Str, con, dex, ect thing and hp are subjective. Just know you can take a lot less if you are magic oriented then if melee or similar. That way you dont have to keep track of a lot of numbers (and i have to keep track of a lot less). To maintain the flavor of the individual classes/races each will be assigned some numbers, but they will be on paper in the GM's lair, and most people won't have to bother with them. Again this is all about fun, not about number crunching. You decide your actions, I will decide the consequences of those actions hehe. (Charging into hundreds of enemies alone is going to most likely get you killed, while staying home in a cottage will net you no exp and most likely be boring).

I will nominate myself as gm (as I can commit to being here everyday), however, if there any serious objections I have no qualms about a vote.
If you choose any of the following races please keep in mind that because of their bonus abilities they will suffer some penalties. Drow, Duegar. Only those human, elf (wood, high, grey), half-elf, dwarf, and half-orc will be allowed, but the Drow and Duegar suffer a few more negatives then the D&D versions.
And for now (at the start) the only classes I will allow are:Fighter, Ranger, Paladin, Mage, Thief, Monk, Priest, and Druid. Once I am comfortable with the flow of this, I might allow more (this of course dependant if I am GM).

If you have a favorite character and would like them to have a cameo, even if you are not active in the campain, let me know. I will work something out with you :). Lets say 14 days for signup, then the fun will begin. If only a couple signup most likely it will be done by PM or something. :) Thanks for your time.

im not a d&d fan and dont know how to play and probably thus wont register, but id like to know:

1) what is a Duegar? a variation of Grue?
2) what is the difference between Drow and grey elf?
3)this is more a question about d&d: who determines what can i do? i mean can i become suddenly a 7-headed devil and dominate the world? or suddenly "find" on a floor a magic pickaxe that kills all goblins in the world instantly?
4) i cant be a leprechaun? NOOO! just kidding.

I have absolutely no experience at this kind of game, and I think once school starts I won't have very much time available either. However, I do want to see how this turns out and I'll make time for it (I won't be at school or studying all day long).

That being said, I'll start by expressing my dissappointment at the fact that I can't be a Leprechaun Illusionist :D

Seems like I'll have to settle for a Human Druid.
I was told that as long as I could commit to being here every day, I could attempt this.
P.S. I take it that this game has been approved, yes? I'll update the games list then.

1) Duegar are 'dark' dwarves. They are more magic oriented, usually evil, and take penalties from fighting in light. Also, a lot of races has some problems with them, so they would have to work a little harder then most to overcome this.

2) Drow elves are sort of like the dark elves of HoMM. They are ruled by females; however, worship a spider goddess Lloth (except 'renegades'). They have some potent inate magic, but there female priests are the real power as they issue forth Lloth's commands. Again, mostly evil, they have to work harder to gain acceptance with other races. One of there most dangerous abilities are two fold. They can 'see' in complete darkness, and they can create darkness once a day (you can see why this is a dangerous combination). However, light makes them suffer negatives, and extream light (ie magical light) can be painful to them.
The other elves are pretty cosmetic changes, but wood elves get bonus abilities as rangers/druids, High elves and grey elves get bonus's as mages. Note to this : Most non-humans suffer what is called a exp penalty. Since they live longer they don't benifit as much for an experience as the shorter lived humans. The exception is the Half-orc.

3) though you have control of your actions, the GM determines what you find, and any abilities/powers/ect you may have. He/she spins a story, and you are a character in that story. It is like reading say the hobbit, and being able to decide what one of the characters would do in a situation. The general flow of the book would be unchanged, but the outcome would be different. (ie if you were 'samwise' and killed golum while frodo slept frodo would have kept the ring and the bad guys would have won).

4) no leprechauns sorry :(. Hehehe

Human Monk. Crushing peoples bones with my bare fists sounds like fun. But i should warn you, my D&D exp is limited to NWN...
1) Duegar are 'dark' elves.
Don't you mean dark dwarves?
4) no leprechauns sorry sad. Hehehe
You could just take a gnome template and call it a Leprechaun. Gnomes have Illusion as a fav school or something too, right?

Then tLD can make himself a Gnome Illusionist named Lepreachaun that likes to wear green. He can even say that's where it all started. :D

Oh, and its Duergar! ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duergar_%2 ... Dragons%29

Never said you should be, but someone should correct it anyway.

i was tempted to go for the monk, but TT stole it already and i want to try something different, can i be a Half-Orc Barbarian? or if not that, I might try a human rogue (or thief :D ) ... hmmm ... that might be the choice right there, although playing a half-orc barbarian could be fun :D

I certainly would if the Gnome race and the Illusionist class were allowed... If they are, then I change my choice to that.

Ok, no problem with the barbarian, and no problem with the Gnome Illusionist (just remember there will be spells you wont have access to since illusionist is a specialized mage)

Yay! :D
Leprechaun the Gnome Illusionist it is, then!
Don't worry about the spells, I've never played this game before so I won't know what I'm missing. I'll just manage with what I have.

A psionic halfling what is the question. As I said, will be a power, not a class if I run this. so you could be a Psionic human Necromancer, or a Psionic Halfling Fighter (now there is a picture that will be stuck in my head for weeks, thanks DL)....or whatever :). Please send me a list of Psionic powers however. :)

Adding some new possible classes. Bard, Barbarian, Specialist Mages, Specialty priests (Which are war, death, Magic, light, and chaos)..

Also introducing a 'take your own risks' race. Not divulging any info but the name of the race. The name has been used before, but this race may either be the best, or the worst, or somewhere in the middle. And, you learn a little about the bonuses, or penalties, as you work through the game. It is risky, but the rewards may..or may not..be worth it :)...muhahahahahah

The name of the race I am using is Gold Elf, but they are not like the ones you have seen before...I warn you.

Edit : Individuals signing up for this race must PM me if interested, and a confidentuality clause is in effect. If nobody chooses the race it will not appear at all in the game.

I wont be a part of such a discrimination :disagree: Its like having a fighter that dables in magic.

As for the list of powers,I have just the one I thought of.Though I think its quite a good one. Will PM you later, when I get some sleep.
