Heroes III over Hamachi?

Unread postby Ballistae Hero » 18 Jul 2006, 20:08

Hey, long time no post (and first time on the new forum, I think).

I've been trying to get a Heroes III game running over Hamachi, but Heroes III doesn't seem to have a LAN option. So.. forgive me for being relatively unfamiliar with how Hamachi works (the only other game I've used it with is Warcraft), but how do I get a game running in H3?

Hmmmmmm

5 min later:
Hmmmmmmm

1 second later:
Have you tried by clicking on multiplayer and then on TCP/IP connection? As far as I can see, that connection is for LAN and because Hamachi is an illusion of LAN, it should work.
I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

if you enter server´s ip address, you can join him without hamachi (tcp/ip doesn´t mean lan only)

@Klay: We tried a direct IP connection but it kept saying it couldn't find the server (even with the router ports set up to forward to my computer).

@Sauron: Would I use my computer's IP or the IP displayed in Hamachi? I'm not sure whether the IP shown in Hamachi is one it assigns to my computer or the IP of the network itself.

When you use Hamachi, you don't have to enter an IP address for Heroes 3. You simply start Multiplayer, TCP/IP and the Hosting Player's game will appear in the list of the joining player's (I guess like on a LAN).

It's super simple and works great! :)

Now the server appears, but when I try to join it thinks for about thirty seconds then gives an error. From what I can gather on the internet, this is because the ports aren't open. Buuut.. isn't Hamachi supposed to fix router problems by acting as though you are on the same network?

It should, yes. I tried all sorts of things with opening ports but couldn't get anything to work with the router until trying Hamachi.

With Hamachi, I haven't opened any ports and it works fine. However, I did have a few times when it just didn't want to connect properly (I think that was around the second and third times using it) and I'm not sure why. Since hten it's pretty much worked all the time and except once the server went down for a bit (a couple of hours maybe).

You might need to ask on the Hamachi forums (I think they have some) about problems if you still can't get it to work.

when connecting through hamachi one of the players have to had public ip. Otherwise you will never connect. You can also ask somebody who has the public ip to set the connection for you (he will generate the map with castle without pass to it because when you will be disconnected the third person can only load the game and he will need the castle). After you will be in the game the person who set the connection can leave and you will be playing with each oter. Answer if it halped you.

Btw. Private ip starts by 10... or 172.16... - 172.31.255.255 or 192.168... so to set the game you need the person who has not ip from that range.
