Just imagine uncovered area, and by the edge you see thick and big hero trail. And your own army is not that tough. So, immidiatelly know that enemy has great army. Also can help you find out where the hero went, which way. Again helpful. So, it's not just the looks.

No,since the trail depends on the hero, not his army. And the trail disappears in real time,so it is quite useles. Now if there was FoW,and the trailed stayed for the whole day,it would make some sence. Now,however its as useful as those hit explosions.

I think the trail depends on the size of your army. I was playing Makral in the 2nd scenario, and as his armies get progressively larger, the green smog he is trailing get thicker.

Now I am back to the 3rd scenario, starting with a puny army, and...no trail.

Actually It depends on both hero level and army strength. The total strength level numbers for each of the three levels of aura are found in the autoexec file:

Code: Select all

hero_trace_power_1 100
hero_trace_power_2 200
hero_trace_power_3 500
hero_trace 1
BTW: I changed them from the default 1000/2000/3000. I just wanted to have the trail faster. Also you can set them to 0, then all heroes have the level 3 hero trail.

And how are the strength calculated to end up as being a number that would fit with those?
<Number of tier 7 units>*7 + <number of tier 6 units>*6 + <number of tier 5 units>*5 etc.?

Actually we discovered this is also usefull when digging for the Tears of Asha as the trail is visible on the Puzzle Map if your fast enough to move around the digging spot and then clicking the Puzzle Map. Very neat for finding the treasure.

Doing it the hard-way huh?

It's a lot more useful to simply plot your hero's movement path. That shows up on the puzzle map too and doesn't disapear.

About 1,000 times easier then using the hero trail... why are you doing it the hard way?

Because the way you suggest would mean that trail is completely useless, and we know it isnt. They wouldnt put in a useles feature, now would they?

I think it is based on the power level of the entire army+the power level of your hero
Each creature has a power rating, but I don't know how hero power is calculated(probably based on level and stats, but could also include what skills you have : basic offense is better than resoucefulness)

Well its good it dosent depend on the hero strenght only, since the army counts just as much.

Didn't dissapear in real time for me...I am absolutelly sure I've seen enemy's trail in my turn. And exactly in a way I've described before, first saw hero, then he wandered in uncovered area. My turn, trail was there. And perhaps it works just like that. If enemy hero wonders off in uncovered area, trail will stay, if enemy hero wonders off in area you already uncovered, trail might dissapear. Which is great imo.

And as for depending on hero or army. Would still say it depends on army. My level 31 Findan didn't show any trail when carrying only one unicorn. Added 30 druid elders, 19 more unicorns and 19 ancient treants, and trail was there.

No, you just need to look at the Puzzle Map before you move.

Well first you have to click on a location to make the hero have that movement path trail. And then it has to go by the digging spot.

the best trail is inferno.

mainly because it has a bigger effect. i had a HUGE powerful Haven army, and i had this crappy little trail...and then there was this weak AI, and his Inferno trail was blazing away schorching the ground...wtf?
