Skill points?

Unread postby Skull » 03 Jun 2006, 22:37

What is skill points? In the table on skills shown on this page the skills have a required skill point before you can get them. Where do you check your skill points ?

Not totally sure what you're referring to, but it think it's basically the level you are (if it needs 10 skill points, then you need to have assigned 10 skills at level up (so either be lvl 11 to get, minus the ones you started with at level one).

Say for example you get a level up and take leadership. Then that's one skill point. If next level you take attack, then that's a second skill point.

Not sure if you follow -_-

Well go take a look right here: https://www.celestialheavens.com/520

If you for instance click on the "Urgash Call" (The spell in the middle of the wheel on the Demon Lord chart) you will see that it says the following in the bottom of the wheel: Required Skill Points: 29
We have been playing this game for quite some hours now and both our Heroes are 20+ but we havent had the oportunity to choose among the cool skills that require lvl 17 etc.
So is it Hero lvl or is it based on something else and we have just been unlucky?

If you look back at that wheel, that says Required Skill Points: 29
Manually count how many skills you'll need to get there (including the basic, advanced, expert of the skills), you'll notice that you'll need exactly 29 "skills" (if we include the basic, advanced, expert, but exclude basic gating, as you start with it).

See where I'm going?
Each "skill point" refers to a skill you need to get that one. And since, excluding witch huts, you only get one skill per level, then you'll need about 29 levels to get it.

Hope I was a bit clearer this time :)

Well ok my problem is very simple. I am Death Knight and I have been waiting endless time to get "Retribution". I am lvl 24 and I still dont get to choose Retribution when leveling up. Made me think I am doing something wrong?

Unfortunately, no. The Skills and Abilities you get at level-up are random. So you might possibly only get offered two "bad" (=unwanted) choices, and possibly even get blocked on your way to the Ultimate. We hope this will be fixed in a patch but I personally think there's little chance for that to happen =/

What's wrong with you being blocked on your way to the ultimate?

Are you suggesting perhaps allowing you to reject all the skill choices offered (and get none as a replacement) so that you don't screw it up completely but do need 1 more level than you anticiapted?

he probably just didnt get the right skills, in which case he would never be offered the ultimate. or is that not possible?

I am wondering how to fix that in a patch. This quasi-random skill system is one of the longest-running tradition in the game, and is needed or else every heroes is running around with the best skills in the game.

Maybe lowering the amount of skills required for the ultimate skill? Especially since most ultimates aren't that "ultimate" (well, except for the Nature's Luck)
Maybe go from 4 requirements to 3? And make it so you need the Ultimate of the racial skill in order to get it :)

Necropolis heroes cannot learn retribution, ever. Only Warlock and Knight heroes can. Check out the skill wheel to find out what the prerequisites are for it. (run the skill wheel program and click on retribution. All prerequisites will be emphasized.)

What they could do is to dispense with the rigid skill\ability separation at level up. If you don't have 2 valid choices for a new skill, fill the space with an ability (assuming you have enough valid ability choices of course), instead of leaving the spot blank.

Hi,

i have been testing skill building in game by typing "add_exp" console comand and i figure that it is very difficult to reach ultimate skill. I was trying about 20 times to get it and finally achieve it.
I was training Demon Lord and my experience is to build "dark magic" as is possible and at the "end - luck" trying to erect all abilities to its skills one by one. Racial abilities was build as quick as possible. If u have ur 1 free skill picket try to not choose its abilities (or if u dont have any other choice).

one shouldn't need to suffer poor skills and abilities just to get to good ones.

in fact; one should be able to choose no skill at all. sometimes that would feel better. maybe there would be some other kind of bonus for not choosing a skill.

what bothers me most though is the fact that there are very few skillteaching objects on the map.

Maybe allow someone to take a level without necessarely taking a skill/ability?
Sure it's not ideal since you could have used a skill...

Or increase the level cap, while lowering the XP gap between levels (needing 1,500,000,000 or so to reach lvl 40 is a bit big... )
