Contest #1 Winners

Unread postby Kalah » 11 Oct 2011, 11:52

The first <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/1316876014">contest</a> has now been concluded and the winners are:

<b>1st place: rdeford</b>

<i>"I am one of those crazy adults who let my young kids play with my computer. I bought HOMM2 for the Mac when it came out. I installed it but had to go to work before I had a chance to play it. My seven year old daughter called me at work (which she never did before) to tell me about this wonderful game where you rode around on a horse, built a castle, and found cool stuff lying around. My adult children became brave, bold, adventurous, technophiles with incredible imaginations. I am 69 and still playing."</i>

<b>2nd: kamMan</b>

<i>"In the Summer of 1996, I was working as a college intern in Huntsville, Alabama when I stopped by the local game store. The clerk recommended I try a new game called Heroes of Might and Magic. That night I played it until the break of dawn only stopping to call in “sick” for work. Playing HOMM still gets me in trouble from time to time with my job, but I now have a seven year old son who loves playing with me. Times change, but my love for HOMM has never waned."</i>

<b>3rd: adam l</b>

<i>"It all started many years ago,

When i was young and low,

I felt in love with what i saw,

Beautiful, appealing and woow!!

Heroes 2 was the name,

It drove me really insane,

Couldn't stop playing the game,

Also played the 3rd, 4th and 5th part which later came,

Waiting for the 6th part with my feelings the same,

With its beauty, spirit and m&m feel it will surely gain fame. "</i>

Thanks to all those who participated - congrats to the winners and to the rest: better luck next time! Stay tuned to CH for more contests! <img src="/images/smiles/smile9.gif">

Well, I suppose that if the answer had been about the legacy and how NWC laid the foundations for a great series through innovation and excellence, it would have been a good answer but as it stands, a "100 words or less" contest asks for a little more than just the three. ;)

TT's statement, while being absolute truth and impossbile to dispute, didn't, as far as I can see, correspond with the actual task posed in the contest.

Worthy winners, I dare say.

@Ethric

So what does "or less" mean in your parallel reality?

Although seriously, i shouldn't have won, i should have gotten a (dis)honourable mention if they had any balls...

Aren't those texts under the category Describe in 100 words or less [strike]why you're[/strike] how you became a fan of Might and Magic?

Elder kind of has a point here. The few words mentioned about "why" are comparable to TT's three word response. ;|

Guys, could you please post all the contest entries here? I wonder if there was any mention of the main RPG MM series among them :devious:

Any answer as to why you are a fan would necessarily go into how you became a fan. :P

Anyway, without elaboration as to what exactly made NWC and the series so special to you, consideration for the actual win is out of the question. Even TT agrees. :D

Now - I think I will get onto arranging the next contest ... :)

@Kalah not necessarily. I bet mine wasn't the only one that isn't under the "how you became" category.

And I agree with XEL II it would be nice to see all the participations :)

Here we are - and I agree, there are several more good ones that could have taken prizes. If only we had T-shirts for everyone, eh? :)

By the way, not included in this list are the ones who, like TT, just said a couple of words. :P

Also, sadly, I had to disqualify the otherwise excellent story by Dan, because the 100-word limit was exceeded by 650% :(
I first got a computer when I was 9, it was Windows 95 and the first game I had on it was Heroes of Might and Magic 1. After that I was addicted. Strategy, war, fantasy, blue haired women, all a young boy could ever want in life!

I followed the series through all of its iterations and have been an avid watch "stalker" of Celestial Heavens since HOMM 3, visiting it on a daily basis, "addicted". I was a little nervous about 6, but after playing the beta I am looking forward to formulating new strategies with the exciting new race layouts.
I have been a fan since mid 90's. It started out as a way to spend time with my brother who was in the military. He would come home and we would play HOMM 2 for hours on end. It went from there to 3, then 4, and then 5. I dont see him much, but I play on a regular basis with him over the net. HOMM brought me closer to him, gave us time to hang out, and rag on each other for making stupid mistakes in the game. Thats why I am a #1 Fan of the entire HOMM series.
Following my passion for M&M, I've worked alongside some of the greatest M&M developers ever, including Tim Lang, Paul Rattner, Jennifer Bullard, Keith Talanay, and Bryan Farina. I’ve uncovered buried secrets of the M&M Universe, including the real maps of MM9 and HOMM4, and the true form and purpose of the CRON vessels. I own every M&M title and collection, including brand new and sealed copies of MM2 and MM3. I’m among the last surviving members of the Legends of Might and Magic community. I’m developing M&MX, the tenth chapter of the RPG series, which will rival all M&M games.
I have been a Heroes of Might and Magic (no mistake here) fan for over a decade now, since my teens. Some of my fondest memories involve a childhood friend and I crowded in front of a single PC taking turns playing Hotseat on Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and then 4. For many years it brought us a lot of joy to watch our heroes grow stronger, recruit massive armies and cast powerful spells. There is a magic to the gameplay style of Heroes that charmed me then, and still holds me today. Long Live Heroes!
Remembering my childhood battles in HoMM3 I was thrilled with the release of HoMM5, and I became an instant fan. I spent a lot of time honing my skills with the help of other fans, and had a very nice time doing so.
Writing being on of my loves, I soon picked up writing fan-fictions and also fan-factions, which is something that I've continued to enjoy ever since. I won the 5th International Create a Town Contest at HC with my Serpent Cult, and my latest H6 inspired Coven faction has received praise as well.
I’ve been a fan since Might and Magic III in 1991 because it’s the series that introduced me to RPGs and the games have a heart that you don’t often find in other games.
Mood, Depth of strategy. Playing with friends especially in Hot Seat or LAN. This game gives many good things but all of my childhood memories too because it begins in 1997 and the Heroes mood and pestilence got me there at once and it gave me new friends too. I can be the hero I always wanted to be with the new skill tree system. So my hunger for strategy, mood, fun, in the Heroes universes will be expanded. I'am a fan because Ashan always need master Heroes and Heroes always need faitfhul fans and friends
I’m a fan because everything might and magic happen. Sundays are the days in wich markets open for me and I trade to be able to build something interesting. Each Monday I wake up and recruit an army before leaving home eating M&Ms. Every time I can do something great, I have to wait because my movement ended. Before going to sleep I take a moment to plan what I will build tomorrow and who I should fight, then I can rest (and hit my clock).
I'm a fan of the game because it's impossible to tell what time is it after having played it for a while. The way it gets you into it's world is completely unmatched. Take H5. It's a sure bet that you'll have to ask what time is it after you've walked for Ashan. The campaigns' story make it even easier to get immersed. Besides, it's so much fun. I can play it alone, or with my friends and there's no way to get bored.
I became a (Heroes of) Might and Magic fan in 1996. My classmates were playing Warlords II. One day, a friend brought a new game called Heroes of Might and Magic. The highlight was the battle system :)
We played for a while (loosing many nights in hot seat) and, at some moment, a Heroes of Might and Magic II appeared. Now, there were 3 vs. 3 matches on the Good vs. Evil map. I remember groups of six people gathering to “study” for the next day exam and playing Heroes all night long.
First time I played Heroes of Might & Magic II I was three or four years old. Of course, the enemy destroyed me again and again, but I absolutely loved (and I still do) the wonderful lands and creatures of Enroth… and its music. I grew up playing Heroes of M&M games so I almost consider them a part of my life. I recently “discovered” the RPG M&M games like Isles of Terra and World of Xeen, which make me feel the same when I was a child. Might & Magic means for me more than games, synonymous of joy.
Might and Magic is the best game i've played ever. It has awesome graphics. When I play it looks as if I am in the game. Excellent battle system and resource management. It was even my first graphics game I had played. The battle systme is fantastic, especially in Heroes 5.
I'm a fan because I've been playing HOMM since King's Bounty appeared on the Sega megadrive. Heroes of Might and Magic ( And Might and Magic) covers at least 50% of all my playing time and since all the Heroes Chronicles episodes are available (finally) I'm currently finishing chapter 4....... almost halfway
I am a fan of Might and Magic because the series is about high fantasy. It pierces the imagination with a depth akin to Lord of the Rings while at the same time taking the player to a more dynamic experience. Instead of simply showing humans, elves, and dwarves pitted against orcs and otherworldly demons, Might and Magic (specifically Heroes games) allows the fantasy-fan to ponder: what if all of these factions were pitted against each other? In this way it represents reality much better than other fantasy universes. It also contains rarer fantasy creatures such as Troglodytes.
When I was a little boy, a friend of mine had a computer. This was quite revolutionary for that time, and I remember spending all my summer days at his apartment. The only game we ever played was HoMM II. It was my first game. It got me hooked to games and computers. Now, almost 15 years later, I am studying Computer Sciences, and ever since those summer days my dream has been that one day I would make a genre-defining game. And, even today, I play HoMM with my girlfriend, because it is the only game we both like.
My ability to become immersed in games has allowed the Heroes series (including Dark Messiah) to take me into thier world, thier psyche, and thier lives. The gameplay is addicting, the progression of my kingdom is exciting! I... literally cried once during HOMMV near the end. I cannot wait to set off on new adventures come release day! Deluxe Edition pre-order you know it!
My first touch with the franchise was with Heroes II - back in my father's office, playing with my brothers after school. That's how it started, and if I love this series is because it's a simple game(build cities, hire troops, attack enemies) with an awesome atmosphere, with classic mythological creatures. But the most important part is the fact that you are commanding those creatures - which leads to epic stories about saving your kingdom, conquering others or even ruling the world! And it's addictive as hell - what more do you need?
Might and Magic 6 and Heroes 3 is where the adventure started with the series for me and my wife. The world of Might and Magic is so vast and stories so interesting that it will never get old to us. We have come to love playing the games old and new and will always be fans. I also played the Heroes 6 beta and really enjoyed it. I think it’s going to be one of the best and really look forward to its release. I hope UBI will continue producing new games for the series (Might and Magic 10) hint hint and would like to say thank you for all your hard work.
The first game I remember seeing was Heroes I. My big brother was playing and I was very young so it was very interesting for me to see all those pretty pictures. Watching him play I learnt some of the basics and by playing Heroes from I to VI I got enough experience ( about 160000 :P ) to beat my boyfriend who is also playing Heroes from his childhood.
I love Might and Magic games because they were always a important part of my life. I remember my father telling me in Christmas to go out with other kids and i didnt listened because i wanted to finish the campaigns in Heroes 3. Ive remember spending couple of weeks with my friend playing in hot seat mode a XL map. Finally i remember showing heroes 3 then 5 to my girlfriend. She loved the games and from that time we play together them as adults.Thank you might and magic for some of the best times in my life.
I am a lifetime fan of heroes of might and magic. This is a series I have played since I was a child and it has stayed with me as one of the pillars of my gaming experience. The music is captivating and I frequently listen to these masterpieces on my non gaming hours. The towns are magnificent to behold when finally built, and the maps themselves while beautiful, beg to be investigated further for more hidden treasures. The battles are exhilarating and the brain power they require keep my mind sharp and quench my gaming needs. HOMM 4 Life!
I am a great fan of Might and Magic since the release of the franchise back in 1980s. I still remember the first Might and Magic title I played was Sword of Xeen. Consequently, I got hooked onto the series because of great storyline, vast variety of creatures, characters and heroes, game history, quests, skills, artifacts and unique graphics and superb music that I never fail to listen to whenever I thought of the game. I am very impressed by Jon Van Caneghem idea and creation of the game, and I’m proud to be one of his loyal fans.
First there's tradition: NWC Might & Magic games were an important part of my introduction to the world of computers. Then there's the pure joy of turn-based game play: the use of strategy, not just reflexes. And finally, the chance to be the leader: to save your people from vicious foes, and build a Hero with cool skills and abilities while you do it. Might and Magic helped inspire a career, feeds my brain, and lets me play out a story with marvelous emotional rewards and the deep satisfaction of a challenging mission successfully accomplished. Who wouldn’t love it?
I have been a fan of the game since the beginning. I have loved watching the evolution of the series and the way it has blended with the "Might & Magic" games. And because I can use the word "fan", instead of "addict" to describe how I feel about the series; even though my wife would say otherwise! :) Oops, gotta run; there's more undead, which need to return to their graves!
When i broke my leg i couldn't walk for 15 days and that's the time i first heard for and played m'n'm franchise ( homm5 ) , and i was amazed for how long can i play a game and not get bored (didn't even feel hunger nor thirst -extremely strange in my case , thats the reason i would need a XL T-shirt size ). So that potentially extremely boring 2 weeks past like its nothing thanks to heroes and people who made it so interesting. thx for taking this game on to another level, i waited for this for a few years now.
Why i like Might and Magic: Heroes? The reasons are:
1.It has good storyline. Storyline is important in games.
2.It has factions, world, lore ect. Heroes has its own world.
3.Factions have different units, heroes, towns, buildings, tactics, skills, races. All faction is different. Why i'm a fan? You know, once day i discovered Heroes III demo...
I am a fan of Might and Magic because it is a family legacy. When I was a toddler, I watched my Dad adventure through the engrossing world of Might and Magic 2. At six, this journey continued when my Dad brought home the original Heroes. I remember sitting on his lap, watching as he played through the campaign. As soon as I could, I replicated my Dad’s conquests by playing as the Sorceress faction on the “Claw” scenario. Since then, my Dad and I have purchased every Heroes game and our fandom is one of our chief bonds.
I've loved the Might and Magic series since I was five and first laid my hands upon Heroes of Might and Magic 3, since then I have played every Might and Magic there is (except Legends). And NEVER have I gotten tired of it, neither have I stopped playing. I love the Heroes Map Editor which gives so many possibilities, and as you know I have been a very active mapmaker for some time
