No; I've just watched more of them. I try to go back and watch the older ones, but they aren't as available at my local video store unfortunately...

The problem is that when a movie is bad enough, it becomes good. "Manos, Hand of Fate" was hilarious.

One of my favorites was "Attack of the the Eye People" (Yes, there were two 'the's in the title.) It seems they only had one complete eye person costume, so they had other eye people wear just the mask and a black sweater.

Plan 9 from Outer Space! Seriously, the lame plot, special effects, actors and day/night alternation were nothing compared to the Narrators voice. It was so horrendously mind scratching that it was funny.

Seems that Caradoc is a Mystery Science Theater fan...ah, so am I. Eye Creatures if one of the better ones, 'darn smoochers!'

Doesn't that hurt your claims about movie quality changing over the years? (Not that you ever claimed you were an authority or anything.)

I've decided that quality has at least two sides -- production and appreciation. When I said the older movies were better, it was from an artistic standpoint -- better scripts, better acting, better scores, better direction, etc. But for pure entertainment, I can go for a Godzilla movie any time.

And yes, I loved MST3K. Some years back, I was going through the mandatory midlife crisis and I decided to make a list of things that made life worth living. MST3K was in the top 5. I've got a whole bunch of VHS tapes that someday I'll burn to DVDs -- lots of the old ones with Joel and TV's Frank. (Incidentally, did you know TV's Frank now works for Air America Radio?)

Your distinction of production and quality I do agree with, but I do hope you know that there have been some well made Godzilla films over the years. (My favorite ten films...

) I still disagree that newer films just have worse scripts, or anything for that matter. But, for the sake of argument, when do you think that this decline in cinema started to take place?

Oh yes, since I have not mentioned it, I do like your pick of favorite films. Not sure about Rocky Horror though, then again everyone does have films that they just really like, and I suppose that the Submarine would be better on acid. If you and Corribus have a festival, drop me a line.

Well the problem is that the so called great movies aren't as great as they used to be.

The movie was really not that bad. It's been mocked because they spent such an incredible amount of money (for that time) on the Duck figure and it just did not work. (Remember, 'Howard' made its debut the same day as the original Star Trek TV series.)

The cast was good: Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Jones, Tim Robbins. The story was a little too zany for those days. But the special effects were just not up to the challenge.

Maybe you are not familiar with Howard's comic. He was something of a cult figure as the first cartoon character to be written into mainstream comics. This was in the *ahem* provocatively titled "Giant-size Man-Thing" comics. When Steve Gerber was writing him, Howard had an ascerbic wit that was often hilarious.

"Chessh— like you hairless apes haven't screwed up your world enough. You misrepresent an ancient philosophy, package it as violent entertainment and sell it to your young to emulate " (On Kung Fu)

But even in those days, Disney was a tad overprotective of their characters, and after all Howard WAS a duck. So there were threats of lawsuits and issues of creative control that ended up with Gerber departing soon after Howard was given his own book.

Of course, the Hollywood elite had never met the character before the movie, and they just didn't 'get' it. But they hated George Lucas and this was a chance to beat up on him.

So OK, it's not a great movie, but one anima-duck more or less, it's actually not that bad.
