For which game?
In Heroes 3, you could set the number of human teams to 1, with only 2 human-allowed positions, and that would work. I don't know off-hand about the other games.

Yea i did what you said it was tricky cus on the allies enemies thing it wouldnt chnage when u did that

Concerning HOMM IV:

When you create a random map, you could copy the temp file that is created by HOMM IV on your HD-drive to your user-map dir
then send the new created map by e-mail to your buddy.
He then has to copy the map to his user-map dir.

then connect and play the new created map by the net
simple

But you have to be a kind of computer-wizz or geek to be able to do so.
