The lyrics of HoMM V

Unread postby cornellian » 07 Jun 2006, 14:28

I was wondering if someone know the lyrics for HOMM V Themes, namely for Haven Theme as the Main Theme is just two lines from Libera Me:
Dies irae, dies illa, calamitatis et miseriae (main vocals)
and
Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine, dona eis Domine (barely recognizable, in the background in the second part of the vocals)

Now, I can understand the first part of Haven theme, it is lacrimosa which goes like:
Lacrimosa dies, dies irea (the original is just lacrimosa dies illa)
Qua resurget ex favilla
Judicandus homo reus.

Then the trumpets enter and we have:
Tuba mirum spargens sonum

... and this is where I lose track of Karin; she gets lost in the track and as she never was good in pronouncing the words (check HoMM IV), or maybe as I never was good in understanding her, I get stuck in the lyrics...

Though there is little doubt that she ends up with some line about Fortis...

Can anyone enlighten me about what the rest of the lyrics are?

Nice observation ;)
I like the latin touch. Sounds exotic and prettier than ordinary english lyrics.
Anyway I have no clue about the rest of the lyrics. Would be nice to have them all..

So when translated it is something like :

Main Theme :

Dies illa, dies irae, calamitatis et miseriae,
That day, the day of anger, of calamity, of misery,
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine
Eternal rest grant them, o Lord

Haven Theme :

Lacrimosa dies, dies irea
The day of tears, the day of anger
Qua resurget ex favilla
From the dust of earth returning
Judicandus homo reus.
Man for judgment must prepare him

Tuba mirum spargens sonum
Wondrous sound the trumpet flingeth

I wonder if Rob King is a fan of Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem ?

Thanks Orfinn, I also think that Latin is the language of choice for Opera, though German is an exceptional choice as well. English just doesn't cut it...

Anyway, according to wikipedia, a translation in simpler words of lacrimose part 1 is:
Tearful that day, (the day of wrath,) (for the extra dies irea)
on which will rise from ashes
guilty man for judgement.

and The trumpet casts a wondrous sound,
for tuba mirum spargens sonum..

However, though tuba mirum.. goes on:
per sepulcra regionum,
coget omnes ante thronum.

(through the tombs of all around,
making them the throne surround.) ; this is not Karin says and this is where I get confused..

Help me, Rob King, you are my only hope :D

Hi there. =)

I wonder if you guys were able to make out the lyrics of Hammers of Fate menu music. It's still from Faure's Requiem (http://homepages.luc.edu/~avande1/requiem.htm), but is fairly mixed up.

For all I could hear, it goes like this

Sanctus Sanctus Dominus,
dona eis (something, but not requiem),
pie Jesu Dominus...

and that's quite about it. The way they sing it, you can really be sure only about vowels you hear. =)

Any Ideas?

(damn, why can't they just publish the lyrics with the soundtrack cd)

I believe she says this (includes the part at the very end).. It's some of the lyrics from Dies Irae but she left out some parts (those are in the brackets).

Lacrimosa dies, dies illa,

qua resurget ex favilla

judicandus homo reus.

Tuba mirum spargens sonum

(Per) sepulchra regionum,

(Coget) omnes ante thronum.

Tuba mirum spargens son(um)

-

O (tu) Deus majes(ta)tis,
Amen.

Now I'm not sure about all of this but that's what I heard. Hope it helps. :)

Source from HOMM5 Orchestra youtube subtitles

Lacrimosa dies, dies illa,
Qua resurget ex favilla,
Judicandus homo reus.

Nudus sum coram vobis,
et in clari tae,
tempus est hodi redemptio,
suscipe ad te Domine.

Voltis,
(Sequere ignem omnis rex!)
Voltisi,
(Immortal infinitum rex!)
Voltisi,
(Immortal infinitum sum in tuum aeternum vivat rex!)

@Skyrise, thank you so much for posting this last year, because it appears the people trying to write down the lyrics by ear were way, way, off. You saved me from a lot of red herring wrong answers.

Also, no disrespect to those who tried before. It's really hard to hear song lyrics in opera, even in one's native language, much less a foreign language, without subtitles.
