Former New World Computing lead artist Eric Newman was supposed to send Celestial Heavens his thoughts on the Heroes V demo. But just back from E3, he had to tell the praises of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Arkane Studios:

"I took a look at Dark Messiah, spending nearly an hour at the booth talking to the dev team and checking out ever bit of the demos they were showing. One word, WOW! I feel a little shocked about seeing it, because in truth that is what the last Might and Magic New World Computing designed was supposed to be. I remember seeing the conceptual work that Keith [ed: Francart] had done and is exactly what we would have done for the fans had 3DO not intervened and tainted things. These new companies emerging and creating new games off the franchises that we developed are making far better games then we could have simply because of the fact they aren't dealing with 3DO. Ubisoft is an awesome publisher as it allows for creative freedom to its developers and has a good ear for feedback.

Back to the comments on the game, graphically I was amazed at how well this new developer of might and magic is using the source engine to bring the quality that only we at NWC were able to achieve in our pre-rendered cinematic sequences. My hat is off to all the artists as they are truly doing justice to the franchise. You could really feel that you were in the Might and Magic universe; the texturing is of the same style as some of the pre-rendered stuff of the previous games. The lighting is so atmospheric and emotional. I even thought the character design was in the same flavor of those characters found in the might and magic universe. The fans really deserve something on this level; they've been waiting for years! Raphael is a great designer, who is hungry to create and I hope to be sitting back with the rest of you enjoying his creation."

Eric has recently been working on movies such as Sin City, Shark Boy and Lava Girl and Memoirs of Geisha. He would love to return to the gaming industry someday. You can read his bio here.
