Sadly it's quite a popular way to do so. At least there is some tort reform out there.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

Good samaritan canoeists get $85 tickets

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - Canoeist Dennis Bohrn and his companions were stunned when they saw a woman jump off the Perrine Bridge, her body landing near them in the Snake River. Many in the group were crying by the time they managed to reach the woman and paddle her body to shore.

So Bohrn was shocked when an officer walked up and instead of thanking or comforting the group last Sunday, wrote out a couple of $85 tickets for failing to have life jackets on board either of the two canoes.

"The body was right there," said the 58-year-old Twin Falls resident. "A girl deputy was trying to console everybody. Then a sergeant walked up. He said, 'I see you don't have any life jackets so I am going to give you a citation.' It seemed a little cold."

Twin Falls County Sheriff Wayne Tousley said he stands by the deputy's decision, although he added, "Could it have been done at another time? He had a discretion."

Bohrn said he and his friends are still traumatized from witnessing the death. He plans to contest the citations in court.

"Maybe you get kind of cold in that job," Bohrn said. "I think there is a time and a place. They should use common sense. Maybe his superiors could tell him, 'Next time, wait until they get to the dock and the girls aren't crying.'

That's milk you know, and giving milk to the child would somehow hurt the cows of this world. (interpret that as you wish)

Guessing why that dumb-az woman did not fed baby with her own milk is useless. Because both of parents are unbelievably stupid, which gives a hundreds of theories on "why"
Besides, maybe she simply could not (that happens), yet it doesnt excuse her actions in any way.

ps: Replacing breast milk with soy milk was a really, really dense thing to do. But giving to a new born infant an apple juice - thats far beyond ..

And what the hell happened to breast feeding?
that's what I'd like to know. If she happens to be one of the very few women who "can't" breastfeed (as opposed to the much more common won't) then formula is the way to go (if she can't find a wet nurse). Even if she could have breastfed but chose not to, why the f..k is she giving a newborn soy milk? and juice?!!! jesus christ .... how stupid can you get!!

cow milk, goat milk etc to a newborn baby is just asking for major problems, their digestive systems simply can't handle that stuff

my lord :disagree:

Frog Juice in High Demand in Peru

By LESLIE JOSEPHS

LIMA, Peru (AP) - Carmen Gonzalez plucks one of the 50 frogs from the aquarium at her bus stop restaurant, bangs it against tiles to kill it and then makes two incisions along its belly and peels off the skin as if husking corn.

She's preparing frog juice, a beverage revered by some Andean cultures for having the power to cure asthma, bronchitis, sluggishness and a low sex drive. A drink of so-called "Peruvian Viagra" sells for about 90 cents.

Gonzalez adds three ladles of hot, white bean broth, two generous spoonfuls of honey, raw aloe vera plant and several tablespoons of maca - an Andean root also believed to boost stamina and sex drive - into a household blender.

Then she drops the frog in.

Once strained, the result is a starchy, milkshake-like liquid that stings the throat.

At least 50 customers a day ask for steaming beer mugs of frog juice at Gonzalez's countertop-only restaurant in eastern Lima, and many treat the concoction as their morning - and afternoon - cup of coffee.

Rebeca Borja, a 53-year-old housewife and mother of five, originally from Lima's central highland city of Huancayo, where the beverage is common, said simply: "It gives you power."

Calf Born With 6 Legs on Nebraska Farm

LITCHFIELD, Neb. (AP) - A days-old black Angus calf romps about a central Nebraska farm just like any other - only this one romps with six legs. "He's a real freak," said Brian Slocum, who said the calf was born Sunday to one of his cows. "I've never seen anything like this before."

The two extra appendages - one a front leg, the other a back - extend from the calf's pelvic area. The longer of the two extra legs doesn't quite reach the ground, and they don't interfere with the calf's mobility.

The unnamed calf also has organs for both sexes and a surgically supplied rectum.

David Smith, a veterinary specialist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, said the calf's twin sexes indicate the embryos for what might have been fraternal twins likely fused during development, producing one calf with extra parts.

Such calves are rare, usually plagued with internal problems and don't live long, cattle experts say.

But so far, Slocum said, the 85-pound calf seems as frisky as the others born on his farm.

"I'm curious to see what happens," he said.

18,000 Mexicans strip for US photographer
About 18,000 people have posed nude for US photographer Spencer Tunick in Mexico City's Zocalo Square, setting a new record for the American artist known for snapping his subjects in the buff.

Thousands of naked volunteers formed a giant mosaic of flesh for Mr Tunick, who far exceeded his own previous record of 7,000 nude models set in Barcelona.

"All eyes are looking south from the United States to Mexico City to see how a country can be free and treat the human body with happiness and not as pornography or as a crime," Mr Tunick said.

According to a preliminary count by organisers, more than 18,000 people participated in the photo shoot held in the city's vast Zocalo Square, the third largest in the world.

Mr Tunick had the throng of volunteers of all ages pose in the foetal position and give a salute to an imaginary flag within sight of the capital's main cathedral and National Palace.

"It was a work of art, a political statement and at the same time an act of love with our bodies," said university student Juan Lagos.

It took Mr Tunick's associates five years to secure permission for the shoot, in which the Roman Catholic cathedral on the square and the Mexican flag will not appear.

Mr Tunick has carried out similar photo sessions in Australia, Belgium, France, Britain, Canada and the United States.

In 1994 he was arrested in Manhattan after a nude model posed for him in broad daylight.

What? Fairness in a court of law?!
Canoeists won't get ticket
By Cassidy Friedman

TWIN FALLS - Two canoeists who were given $85 tickets for not carrying life jackets as they recovered a suicide victim's body Sunday from the Snake River have had their citations dismissed.

The Twin Falls County prosecutor declined to file cases Wednesday against Dennis Bohrn and Michael Futrell, both of whom were cited for failing to carry a personal flotation device.

When Bohrn, his girlfriend, Futrell and Futrell's wife arrived at the shore with the woman's body, Twin Falls County Sheriff's Sgt. Daron Brown looked inside their canoes, did not see life jackets and issued two citations - one for each canoe.

"My husband, who is the one that held the girl until we could make it to shore and was affected the most by all of this, they didn't show much compassion toward him," said Amber Futrell. "He just seemed very callous toward the situation. At the time, you don't think about any of this stuff because you are going through such a traumatic event."

Amber said she appreciated the gesture by the prosecutor's office.

"The fact that they did recognize it was a traumatic event and they are making a special contribution in that way is nice," Amber said. "As much as we can, we would like to put it behind us - although we probably never will - and focus on what's important to us. To be grateful for what we have."

Deputy Brown did not immediately ticket the group, wrote Nancy Howell, Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, in a Wednesday evening press release. First, Brown asked them if they were carrying life jackets, to which they answered, 'no.'"

Leaving the body behind at the shore with emergency responders, the canoeists headed to the Centennial Park boat dock to load their canoes.

While they loaded their canoes, Brown asked them to come to his patrol boat after they finished.

"We didn't get the tickets right then and there," Michael Futrell said. "(Brown) said, 'Under normal circumstances I would not give you a ticket here.'"

Brown felt compelled to cite them because a woman was present whom he had recently cited for not carrying a life vest, Michael Futrell said.

"I felt that they did do it exactly right," he said. "Yeah, it was kind of a bad deal. But the sheriff's department got kind of a bad rap. But after hearing (deputies may give warnings), that situation down there should have been a verbal warning."

But Brown could have acted more draconian than he did, according to Howell.

"A total of three citations per boat could have been issued for safety violations, but due to the circumstances he only issued one," Howell wrote.

Howell declined to further comment about the additional infractions for which the group could have been cited.

Following the prosecutor's decision, Magistrate Roger Harris dismissed the two cases without prejudice.

"(Brown) has dragged a lot of people without life vests out of the river," said TwinFalls County Prosecuting AttorneyGrant Loebs. "His citation was a legal citation. With regard to when he gave it, these people were trying to help out, and, given what they were trying to do and given the situation they were in, Ithink they get the picture and that justice is served by giving them a warning in this case."

More horrific than bizarre, I saw this one at Snopes this morning. I make no comment on the "racial aspect" that is brought up.

Newsom/Christian Murders

How a group of people could be so depraved, I do not understand. They deserve to have the same thing done to them, that they did to the poor young couple. It really sickens me.

Thats right. I just wonder when society will realize that sometimes deprivation of liberty or death sentence is not enough.
