I don't find them a problem to stop once I've got 'em, but my guess is the hiccups these people had where not quite the run-of-the-mill variety

and this is novel :D
Topless wife photo ends man's pole protest
A German man who spent 10 days in a self-made box atop a 22-metre high pole to protest a looming jail term, was lured off his perch by his wife, who sent up in his lunch box a topless picture of herself.

Fred Gregor, 45, was bidding to have his 15-month conviction for fraud overturned by squatting in his tiny 3.25 square metre cubicle atop a converted television mast.

He told Reuters in a telephone interview last week that he wanted a new trial.

His wife Susanne, 25, backed his protest until the former stripper and mother of their five children decided she had had enough.

The Bild newspaper published the topless photo of herself in a wedding dress she sent him.

She told the newspaper he came right down.

positive reinforcement can be a powerful tool! :D

and I think maybe one more for today:
Granny finds grenade in groceries
A 74-year-old Italian grandmother who bought a sack of potatoes at the her local market has found a live grenade among the spuds.

"I found a bomb in the potatoes," Olga Mauriello said.

"I went to the market to buy some potatoes and that's where the bomb was. But this bomb was covered in dirt, and I put it in water and got all dirt off and then I realised 'it's a bomb'."

Police say the pine cone-shaped grenade, which had no pin and was still active, was the same type used by US soldiers in Europe in World War II.

Authorities believe the mix-up happened at a farm in France, where the grenade was plucked from the ground along with potatoes.

To the woman's relief, police and explosives experts in the small town of San Giorgio a Cremano, near Naples, recovered the grenade and safely detonated it.

Elf defence for 'lingerie thief'

Mr Boyd is accused of stealing bras, knickers and stockings.

A man accused of a stealing underwear from a shop in a knifepoint raid believed he was a female elf at the time, Belfast Crown Court has heard.

Robert Boyd, 45, from Broadlands in Carrickfergus, is accused of holding up staff at the Orchid shop in Belfast disguised in a wig, hat and glasses.

He told the court he had been involved in a role-playing game at the time, and his character was an elf named Beho.

He denies robbery but says he may have blurred reality and fantasy.

He also said it "could be right" that Beho had intended to rob the shop - although he told the jury he could not remember what was going through his mind at the time.

Guy may get lucky and get off for insanity. Of course that would still suck for him spending the rest of his life in an asylum.

That's the beauty of the insanity defense. If you are deemed insane, you are committed to an asylum until you are sane. When you become sane again, you are then sent to rot in prison.

Hole in pyjamas reveals Internet plagiarism
Candidates for British universities have been caught red-handed copying their applications from the Internet after hundreds mentioned "burning a hole in pyjamas at age eight" on their online entrance forms.

The phrase, taken from a website that provides examples of personal statements used by successful candidates, describes an early encounter with a chemistry set.

Medical course applications from 370 others contained statements beginning with "a fascination for how the human body works" and 175 included anecdotes which involved "an elderly or infirm grandfather".

A study published by UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, found 5 per cent of the 50,000 personal statements surveyed at random contained "borrowed material," lifted mostly from one free website.

However most of the material plagiarised was adapted by applicants with direct copying from online sources standing at less than 1 per cent, the study revealed.

"There is a small problem but we're looking at ways to address it," said Byron Price, communications officer of UCAS.

Woman reports stolen cannabis to officer's delight
A New Zealand woman has telephoned the emergency services to report the theft of her cannabis plants.

The woman tearfully explained to a police constable that it was the fourth theft of the illegal plants from her property.

Local reports say the officer found it hard to stop smiling as the woman gave her details.

I don't know who's worse though, the woman for calling the police or the person who stole the plants.

Israeli ambassador found naked, drunk on city street
By Michael Rowland

Israel has recalled its ambassador to El Salvador after he was found on the streets of the capital drunk and naked apart from bondage gear.

Police in San Salvador found Tzuriel Refael in a street near the Israeli embassy.

He was drunk, his hands were bound and he was only able to identify himself after a rubber ball was removed from his mouth.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry official has described the ambassador's behaviour as an unprecedented embarrassment.

He has been recalled to Israel immediately.

San Salvador was Mr Refael's first posting as ambassador, after he was promoted last year from a technical position in the Foreign Ministry.

The scandal has led to renewed criticism over the way Israel selects its diplomats.

German man chainsaws house in two in divorce split
A 43-year-old German decided to settle his imminent divorce by chainsawing a family home in two and making off with his half in a forklift truck.

Police in the eastern town of Sonneberg say the trained mason measured the single-storey summer house, which was some eight metres long and six metres wide, before chainsawing through the wooden roof and walls.

"The man said he was just taking his due," said a police spokesman.

"But I don't think his wife was too pleased."

After finishing the job, the man picked up his half with the forklift truck and drove to his brother's house where he has since been staying.

:D :D :D :D :D
