I did the mines already. Killed the guy at the bottom and brought back Xan (who is now dismissed), but I didn't get the hero's welcome I expected back in Nashkel...

I swapped the dark elf for a paladin I found waiting by the wayside in the nashkeg place; she was resistant to magic, including healing magic and so she was useless to me...

Got myself a +1 sword for my best fighter, and a +1 sling for one of the shooters. Also got hold of a composite long bow.

There's a merc near the Nashkel Mines. Talk to the artist (he's carved a giant head out of the rock), agree to protect him, kill merc, get nifty sword.

Wasn't the Dagger of Venom in Baldur's Gate? I think it was an 18k knife that was just crazy to have for a rogue. Many an enemy brutally fell to back stabs with that weapon.

Well, I restarted the game from scratch. Clearly there was something I had forgotten to do or didn't know how to do, so now I'm using the walkthroughs to help me visit the various areas of the map in the "right" order.

There's a problem with that guy Misc, though. Can't get him to talk to me. He just stands there saying "who wants some?"...

[Edit: OK, the first time I meet him he says: "My hamster does not like your tone. Away with ye." Is there something to my appearance or something, perhaps? I started as a ranger this time... ]

Best not to be evil when speaking with Minsc and don't tick off his witch. Probably shouldn't have Edward with you either.

It is certainly excellent, and this is the reason why it is ranked 19th of all PC games of all time (BGII is 5th) on Gamerankings.com

I do too. But really, after Throne of Bhaal, there wasn't really anywhere for the protagonist to go.

No, but a spin off could work, one where you start at level 1 again and can build right up to max would be sweet, that start up is pretty cool

It could. There were rumors it was in development at one point, but Black Isle dismissed it. I really miss Black Isle.

last mention I had was in 2004 .... thing is, that like Diablo for Blizzard it is a money spinner (maybe not quite to the same degree) and this should at least mean that people think about making it

Neverwinter Nights 2 plays a bit like Baldur's Gate. You have full control over your henchmen, which is quite nice, plus you can have up to 3 of them.

actually I was reading Gamespy's pre-review and it mentioned that very fact .... I was pretty happy to read that

Good work Kalah, I just finished BG2 last night, and starting BG2 - TOB (again) and boy if memory serves there are some epic battles ahead

one piece of friendly advice for people if they don't already know it, a Paladin is your friend, not only does she (my paladin be a girl) swing Carosymr with deadly accuracy (especially if you specialise in Two Handed) the instant cast high level Dispel Magic does wonders for the parties survival in tough fights!!

One word: Keldorn.

If you want über-characters, try a kensai dualed into a mage and specialized in staffs, using the staff of wizardry you should have picked up in Athkatla (the one that grants invisibility on equip. Illithids were never so easy...)
