Saw District 9 last night... pretty cool. The suit reminded me of Tau battlesuits... now i want a 40k movie with the Tau...

Heh, saw that one on the relic news forums the day after i saw D9... and everyone agrees that Orkz or Nids are the most likely villains...

I think you're fairly safe buying movies on DVD. Let's face it, you can't play a Blue Ray on the average computer. And we all know that the technology for 'standard' media distribution is based on the Porn industry. No one really needs to see that in any higher def than already available.

Just saw Batman Begins tonight. Solid movie, but nothing that really stuck out. I'm hoping The Dark Knight is better.

Of course you'd think that, TDK was a movies about the Joker, with a mediocre Batman showing up from time to time... of course that still made it the best superhero movie after Iron Man...

Really? Why do you find it better? And not just you, I'm wondering why many people were so taken with this film and why it got rave reviews. I just finished watching it, and I would say again it is a solid film with some good dialogue and some good action sequences that kept you glued to the screen, but nothing close to excellent or amazing. In a way, I prefer Batman Begins, because I enjoyed learning about Batman's origins more than having the Joker steal most of his thunder. Anyhow, my (IMdB-style) rating would be 7.0 for both films. I actually prefer the first Batman with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson to either of these movies.

Heath Ledger i superb, but Bale is only decent, and Eckhart is terrible. Overall a good movie which is lifted by the new Joker's brilliant performance, but let down elsewhere.

Batman Begins made Ra's al Ghoul lame... and that i can't forgive.

Plus, Joker always steals Bats thunder, even teh coolest Batman only get 50% thunder when the Joker is around... i mean heck, Mister J was supposed to die in his 1st appearance, but the editor found him so interesting that he had the writer add in a scene showing a doctor exclaiming he's gonna live...

What did you think of Superman 1? And how would you rank Watchmen?

I feel the same about TDK, but Batman Begins was better IMO (I think I gave it a 9 on IMDB). That was the least childish Batman movie, and also the Batman movie with the least number of cliche's, plot holes and unrealistic character behavior/choices. Also one of the best Batman movies in terms of acting and direction.

All that TDK had was Ledger's Joker, though for me even that turned out to be under expectations, after reading some reports that gave the feeling I'm gonna see the best acting of the last 10 years. It was not the case. He didn't creep me out at all. And due to poor screenwriting, he also didn't impress as a character. I was expecting an evil mastermind, but the movie fails terribly to explain how he managed to achieve almost any of his plans.

I prefer Die Hard (4) -kind of action movie, where even though it looks less likely that he may survive a fall, or succeed some stunt, they at least show him do it, and the way it is filmed, at least gives you the feeling that "hey, a really tough guy, with a lot of luck, might actually be able to pull this off". But in TDK the chick & Eckhart are suddenly kidnapped w/o anyone noticing it, and taken to different parts of the city, while another guy is planted an explosive in his belly, all these happening in a matter of less than half hour as if he could teleport himself (if sb was doing it for Joker, we get no information in the movie who are these people, where does he find them, how does he convince them, are they caught or is Batman or the police even bothering of catching them at all?). The way the guy with the explosive doesn't say anything is not believable, the way the police chief (or what it was) practically invites the Joker to escape is not believable, the way that truck is lured in Joker's underground trap is not believable, the way Eckhart buys Joker's crap and suddenly changes personality is not believable, the way nobody recognizes Joker's cut-face among the guards in daytime in public (until he actually takes out the gun) is not believable... and I could go on forever, giving you at least 1 screenwriting flaw for every 5 mins of the 2h movie. Honestly, there were more things making sense in Spy Kids and that movie is addressed to a totally different public.

Good points, Zamolxis, especially about the plot holes. The Joker was always on top of things, no matter how impossible it seemed, and frankly, this began to bore me. Also, Ledger's performance was solid, but a far cry from being Oscar material in my opinion. His monologues I guess were supposed to be intricate and thought-provoking but I must admit that at times I just fazed out.

Oh for crying out loud... this was Gotham, the most corrupt city in the world, Joker wasn't alone, he had the mob do most of the stuff, we just don't see it coz they thought that it would undermine the mystique...

Joker wasn't everywhere, the corruption was... he just gave them some instructions. It's even mentioned in the movie how the cops that where supposed to bring them home gave them to the mob etc.

And Two-Face is crazy, Joker prodding or not... what they did was get him wrong, he should have been way more schizo.

TDK tried too hard to be philosophical, and cold have used a less eclipsed Batman, but otherwise you guys are just nitpicking...

Nope, it's got something to say...and it's old. So there are no girls in skimpy outfits polluting the screen like there is in say...modern Disney films

And I really love the music as well. Wonderful themes.

I saw a trailer for the remake of The Wolfman coming in 2010. I have to say. I think it looks pretty good.

They have confirmed that a Creature from the Black Lagoon remake is in the works as well. I wonder if all the Universal classics will get an update?
