My disappointment with the Spectral Dragons doesn't come from their looks, which is fine IMHO, but because they have no real majesty and they just don't seem special because they really aren't a big part of a Necro strategy.
Yeah, I think they need something to make them dangerous again. I remember the ghost dragons in HOMMIII, sure they weren't as tough as any other top level, other than hydra, but they could age stuff and make them really really weak. And for that reason, you learnt to fear them!

Currently, the spectral dragon looks very nice, but its damage is low, their skills are low, their hitpoints are low, and their price is low... Sure, you get an extra one, but it doesn't make up for how bad they are.

They are the most disappointing unit in hommV.

Also, hommIII vampires where the best, although hommV i rate second.

Bih hulky, axe-wielding, armour wearing, head-on-fire-ing devils
versus
cliche'd skinny goatee hoof-men with tail that you see in ghostbusters

The new devil definitely looks better.

The most disappointing unit for me has to be the Gargoyle, mostly because of it's MASSIVE de-powering.

I will put it like this, by levels.

Worst ones by my oppinion are:

Level 1: Conscripts (They are so slow, fall easy and can't do much in battle)
Level 2: Gargoyles or Zombies (can't realy choose, Gargoyles are faster, and Zombies are harder to kill)
Level 3: Golems (by most)
Level 4: Can't realy decide, maybe unupgraded Grims. Upgraded they are all good
Level 5: Djinn (don't need explanation)
Level 6: I can't decide, they are all in it's own way good
Level 7: Spectral Dragons, I must say, and will not try to explain

Note that all the creatures are considered upgraded.

Thats my oppinion and feel free to agree or disagree.

Luckz...

Well seeing as your better of just keeping the Peasants for the gold they quite are.

Gargs are at leaast good against spellcasters. On their own Zombies are dead meat if you have a moderatly fast init creature. I'd say the Zombie take this one.

Agreed, gargoyles can at least tie up shooters while zombies are just bad. To be honest I'd just drop their cost another 20% and increase their growth another 20% while adding a skill requiring expert necromancy that raises 10% of units raised as zombies. This way a high level necromancer would have a buttload of both zombies and skeletons.

As for conscripts just up their stats a tad. Like 1-2 extra attack or defense.

Even so, Peasants would still be better. Especialy with Elaine as a secondary.

Exactly. You'd have to make the Conscripts pretty darn good for them to be better than the +1 gold a day, and later upgrade to Marksmen. Haven have the Footmen to act as lowlevel meatshield, and don't need another, so the Conscripts doesn't have anything to do on the field except to act as a lightning rod and prevent some damage to Marksmen that way.

Does anyone make conscripts any more if they can avoid it?

As bad as I trash talked the Bone & Spectral Dragons I'll buy them if I have the money. However if I've got the money then some peasants are becoming Marksmen anyway.

They SHOULD give no distance penalty to priests/clerics.
Just look at their attack animation

Mod Note: Someone should learn to not edit the font size unnecessarily...

I agree with that. One would think divine wraith would have unlimited range...

Tehnicaly it does, it's just that the Priests/Inquisitors can't aim it as well as the distance grows, and they miss more creatures then when they can see them better.
