He does? I didn't know that. The archangel has 30/30 attack/defense, while the behemoth only 19/19, archangel's damage is fixed at 50, b's 30-50. Frankly, at those characteristics I find it hard to believe the ancient behemoth is able to defeat the archangel. I suppose it's the behemoth's special ability that swings the odds in its favour?

Against the Ancient Behemoth the Archangel has only 6 defense.

So (19-6)x30x0.05+30=49,5 minimum damage for the A.Behemoth. And as the Archangel has only 250 HP and the Behemont 300...

That's right, Ancient Behemoth defeats every other level 7th creature in hand-to-hand combat. In a "duel", however, he loses against Titan, because the second one is a shooter.
Ancient Behemoth is the very best unit from the tactical point of view, especially in case of huge maps. Why? It's simple: the more advanced the game stage is, the better Ancient Behemoth is in comparison to any other creature. For every 1 extra defence skill a hero gains, any unit fighting Ancient Behemoth gains only 0.2, so, for example, in a duel between Archangel and Ancient Behemoth with both heroes' attack and defence skills at the level of 10, Behemoth wins more easily than in case of heroes with skills at the level of 0. Moreover, Behemoth is dirt cheap in comparison to other level 7th creatures.

But his lack of Atk/Def means he's at a disadvantage against lower lvl critters.

I've got to disagree with that. Speaking strictly of L7s, the more advanced the game is, the more likely it is to have two stacks of Archangels that can ressurect each other.

The AB's biggest weaknesses is that they're not very fast. Attack is certainly not a problem with a native hero, but defense is- though they do have very good HP, which means it will take a concentrated effort to bring them down, and with their special, they remain dangerous even if they've taken a hit.

Yes, this is true, but one stack of Ancient Behemoths will crash them nonetheless. And remember how far cheper AB is than Archangel.

Archangels all the way...

I like the phoenix, sure not the strongest, but in numbers they are great, and it's not that hard to get them into numbers

My favorite level 7 unit has to be the Gold Dragon (the strongest unit of my favorite faction, the Rampart ).

I picked the behemoth. I love them even if they seem to die quickly. The one in IV was awesome too. Archangels are just cheap.

I prefer Black Dragon just above Titan...
