Police left stranded in car chase
A police pursuit of suspected car thieves through the streets of an Israeli city ended with officers reporting another stolen vehicle - their own.

After crashing into an electricity pole during the chase in the Tel Aviv suburb of Bnei Brak, the three suspects abandoned their car and made a run for it on foot, a police spokesman says.

Two officers bolted from their police cruiser to try to catch them.

One of the suspected thieves was arrested, another got away, but the third man doubled back, jumped into the police car and sped off, the spokesman says.

It was later found abandoned, its radio and computer screen smashed.

The police spokesman says he could not confirm an Israeli newspaper report that said the officers had left the cruiser unlocked and its engine running.

He says a senior police commander has ordered an investigation of the incident.

Not really news, but ...

HEAVEN HOTTER THAN HELL

The temperature of Heaven can be rather accurately computed. Our authority is Isaiah 30:26,

"Moreover, the light of the Moon shall
be as the light of the Sun and the light
of the Sun shall be sevenfold, as the
light of seven days."

Thus Heaven receives from the Moon as much radiation as we do from the Sun, and in addition 7*7 (49) times as much as the Earth does from the Sun, or 50 times in all. The light we receive from the Moon is one 1/10,000 of the light we receive from the Sun, so we can ignore that ... The radiation falling on Heaven will heat it to the point where i.e., Heaven loses 50 times as much heat as the Earth by radiation. Using the Stefan-Boltzmann
law for radiation, (H/E) temperature of the earth (-300K), gives H as 798K (525C).

The exact temperature of Hell cannot be computed ...

[However] Revelations 21:8 says

"But the fearful, and unbelieving ... shall
have their part in the lake which burneth
with fire and brimstone."

A lake of molten brimstone means that its temperature must be at or below the boiling point, 444.6C. We have, then, that Heaven, at 525C is hotter than Hell at 445C.

Safety fears scuttle Namibia's BBQ world record bid

Namibia has narrowly missed out on breaking a world record after safety fears forced organisers to abandon what could have been the world's biggest ever barbecue.

Thousands of people had gathered at a sports stadium in the Namibian capital Windhoek to feast on an eight-kilometre-long sausage in an effort to beat Australia's record, set 13 years ago.

But after the barbecue, organisers said the crowd began pushing at the gates, forcing them to stop the count "to avoid people getting trampled".

Namibia needed to feed 44,159 people to break the Guinness World Record and when organisers called off the counting they were just 152 short.

Allen Brough said they had counted 44,007 people by sunset.

"We marked people's thumbs when leaving the sports ground at the exit gates to prevent double counting but as it was getting dark, crowds began to push, getting impatient as they were eager to get out," he said.

"There were many children and we were afraid they might get squashed."

Around 30 volunteers began work early on Saturday in an attempt to grill an 8.3 kilometre sausage.

Individual 20-centimetre-long portions of "boerewors", a traditional, spicy sausage, were cooked on improvised grills made of barrel halves covered with mesh wire.

About 50,000 bread rolls had to be baked for the event.

The event took place in the black township of Katutura in the north-western outskirts of Windhoek.

Windhoek Mayor Mathew Shikongo says Namibia will try again at a later stage.

"We should not be discouraged, Namibia was the first African country to embark on this massive organisation to challenge the Australians and next time will succeed."

Shoe shoplifter busted taking stolen goods back
A bungling German thief stole a pair of shoes in two different sizes and was caught when he went back to the shop to fix his mistake, decked out in the clothes he had also stolen, authorities say.

Police in the western city of Bielefeld say the shop owner recognised the 20-year-old shoplifter because the white shoes and sports jacket he wore were available only in his shop, and had been stolen just two days earlier.

"You have to wonder why he went back into the shop in the stolen get-up," a spokeswoman for Bielefeld police said.

"It seems he may not have been the brightest of thieves."

The owner spotted the man as he attempted to switch of the wrong-sized shoe and alerted police, who arrested the thief.

Nun tried to kill priest after finding him in bed with another woman

A jealous nun appeared in court charged with threats to kill and an arson attack on a priest's house - after she caught him in bed with a married woman.

Sister Silvia Gomes De Sousa, 39, saw red and set fire to Father Carmelo Mantarro's house after she nabbed him 'in flagrante.'

The furious nun - who was also Father Carmelo's cleaner - was also armed with a machete and threatened to kill the priest before being restrained by passers by.

Men are more intelligent than women, claims new study

t is research that is guaranteed to delight men - and infuriate the women in their lives. A controversial new study has claimed that men really are more intelligent than women.

The study - carried out by a man - concluded that men's IQs are almost four points higher than women's.
4 whole points.... really huge...

It's not really that surprising of a result. IQ tests tend to have a large component that tests spatial reasoning skills, at which males generally do very well in. Mostly due to environmental factors and toys that boys play with versus those that girls play with at early ages. Thus it doesn't surprise me if males DO score slightly higher on IQ tests than women.

However, women can take consolation in the fact that IQ tests mean very little and are certainly not a real indication of overall intelligence. To claim that this result - IF it is reliable, which it may not be - proves that men are smarter than women demonstrates that this "scientist" is a bit of evidence that is contrary to his own dumb claim.

It should also be noted that the article mentioned that tests on pre-adolescent children didn't show the difference.

Isnt it actually because males were the hunters for so lng, thus their brains developed better in this area?Thats what I was thought the difrence in size comes from,at least.

Indeed so.IQ tests are being taken too seriously sometimes. They show just a small part of human capabilities.

That's the goverment for ya':
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060915/ap_ ... ter_arrest

HONOLULU - TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman and two co-stars on his show were arrested Thursday in Hawaii on charges of illegal detention and conspiracy in the bounty hunters' capture three years ago of a cosmetics company heir.

Chapman, son Leland Chapman and associate Timothy Chapman were taken into custody and did not resist arrest, said Mark Hanohano, U.S. Marshal for the district of Hawaii. "It went down without incident," Hanohano said.

Mona K. Wood, a publicist for the star of the popular cable series "Dog The Bounty Hunter," said Chapman would be vindicated. "He arrests the bad guys — and he is definitely not one of them," she said.

The charges stem from Chapman's capture of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster on June 18, 2003, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, said Marshals spokeswoman Nikki Credic in Washington.

Chapman's capture of Luster, who had fled the country while on trial on charges he raped three women, catapulted the 53-year-old bounty hunter to fame and led to the reality series on A&E.

Chapman, shackled at his ankles and wearing a blue muscle T-shirt at his first court appearance Thursday, said the government was jealous of his success in hunting down criminals.

"You see what the American government is doing to us? They throw us in jail," Chapman said in a federal courtroom. "I'm so upset about this."

The three are being held in Honolulu. Bail has not been set. They will face an extradition hearing to Mexico under terms of treaties between the U.S. and Mexico, Credic said.

Chapman's son Leland, 29, and Timothy Chapman, 41, no relation, assist Chapman in exploits chronicled for the TV show around the Hawaiian Islands. The show focuses on Chapman's family as much as the bounty hunting, which generally involves tracking down bail jumpers, often creating emotional scenes with repentant captives.

Charges have been pending against the three since local police in Mexico arrested them shortly after they roped in Luster. They posted bail but never returned to Puerto Vallarta for their court hearing on July 15, 2003, Credic said.

Mexican authorities demanded that the Chapmans transfer Luster to Mexican police. Their refusal to do so led to their initial arrest.

A U.S. warrant for their arrest was signed by a federal judge in Honolulu on Wednesday.

Chapman's wife, Beth, said he didn't do anything wrong.

"If Duane has to return to Mexico to take care of any misunderstanding, then that's what he will do," she said outside the courthouse.

Man fined for damaging his home for art
A French court has fined a businessman more than $337,000 for defacing his 18th century home in a quiet suburb of Lyon.

He had turned the house into a work of art called The Abode of Chaos.

Thierry Ehrmann, who made a fortune from an online art data business, has spent $4 million on the project since starting out in 1999.

His property is littered with 2,500 works of art including a crashed helicopter in the courtyard, wrecked cars and has reproduction of an oil platform on the roof.

The walls of the old building are painted black and covered in signs and black and white pictures of war and the faces of world figures including Osama Bin Laden and US President George W Bush.

Mr Ehrmann said the point of art was to ask questions.

"We are in a period of questioning," he said on TF1 television.

The Lyon court said he had violated town planning laws by modifying the property without permission.

But the court did not demand he restore the walls and facade to their original state, disappointing the prosecutors.
