You're being way to nice M, I'm sure they could handle itMytical wrote:I wanted to nominate one of my friends, but felt the others would have taken that badly. So I nominated somebody I didn't know who had a good avatar
Now what's this thread about really?
This minor magical charm captures the viewer's attention and distra... ooo, pretty...

Right. Mod action time.
I don't know how many of you remember the Random Banter thread. If you check my reason for closing that, you might see why I closed this one (ever so briefly):
I'm closing this thread down - there's no need for it. We are currently doing a very fine job taking all sorts of Campfire threads off topic, and the need for a seperate chatting thread has vanished...
Now, there's a seperate thread available for discussion on avatar nominations, so I don't know why some people feel the need to discuss it here as well. I've had a glass of wine and cooled my head now, so I am ready to make a proper decision. Here it is:
This thread is re-opened. It is available for any discussion. No off-topic discussion or posts of any kind will be permitted in any other thread.
If people continue to discuss off-topic matters in other threads, the mods reserve the right to reverse this decision and close this puppy down.

Actually this thread is not an off-topic area for other threads. It is supposed to be a thread where one can post things (not flaming or nasty or such) that generally has nothing to do with any other thread. Sometimes yes, another thread is mentioned, but then the thread moves on. It is more a place to be a stress reliever or a place to put your frustrations. It was never meant to be, nor should it be, a place for all offtopic (in other threads) posts. Probably this will get the thread closed down again, or me banned or who knows, but I feel that I would rather not be the person who causes so much grief in CH. I will leave altogether first. This is a good forum, a great community, and an amazing place. This drama just isn't worth it to ruin such things.

I would think so Myst, most of your posts are on-topic and meaningful .... and there are others of us who do that less so, myself included
but I do think that in general most people are posting something worthwhile even if it is a little off-topic and while this should be managed (and is normally managed pretty well) I have some small concern if it all becomes too rigid .... just a minor concern I guess
but at the end of the day, if thems the rules then thems the rules

War, war, war.............
At least a tug of war or something.
I just got thrown out today from a class because the teacher didn't want someone there that already saw the lesson as it would throw him off his game or something. Now that was both hilarious and depresing. Lucky for me another class didn't have a teacher and i just sat there and listened to the freshmen talk, so i wasn't as bored as i could be.
Next week i'm just gonna miss my class so he can't throw me out again, as i won't know the lesson.

Just don't do what I have done before TT. Prove a teacher wrong and you are in the dog house for a long long time. A long (long) time ago when i was young my teacher used his stylus...I mean put a problem on the blackboard and before he was done I told everybody the answer. Well he put down a different answer, and I raised my hand. Well it went badly of course, but I just had to prove myself and did...but afterward I was a 'trouble maker' and seen that way everywhere I went. Just because I was right...*sighs*.

True I have some great teachers . And some unusual but nice ones. I've been a 'student teacher' also. One of my favorite teachers of all times was Mrs. Miller. Every year students would pick on her and test her and do whatever they could to get on her nerves. She was a very easy going, nice, peaceful woman. So finally she come up with a plan, and I am sorry I loved it. Every year on the first day of school she would come in, pick up her teachers desk (not a light item by any means) and body slam it. Now this woman weighed maybe 130, 140, and she body slammed a teachers desk...needless to say nobody picked on her anymore. Her cat could tell the weather (no really...it was NEVER wrong) by doing certain actions. If it was going to snow the next day, it would pull the cover off of her bed and make a 'fort' out of it. If it was going to rain it stand at the door and meow 3 times (or something similar)...and every time she told us what it did...she always was correct for the next day. I never knew her to be wrong. She was a bit eccentric but if you had any problems or questions, or whatever she would always make time for you. Us students made bought her a plague and from what I heard up to her retirement every year after the students would carve there names in that plaque for her. She will be missed (she passed away) by all of us who learned a lot, laughed a lot, and were constantly amazed at her brilliance.

Mytical, It MUST have been a long time ago, because from reading your posts here I doubt you would do this the same way now.Mytical wrote:Just don't do what I have done before TT. I did a similar thing when I was in college. Having learned trigonometry when I was eleven (excellent teacher - more later), I found that when at 17 and at college, being taught it again was a breeze. So when the lecturer put up three problems on the board and did the first one our answers were different.
I checked my work, then his and found his mistake.
The difference between you then and me at 17 was that I called him over and explained quietly. If I had broadcast his error to a class of apprentice engineers he would have been at the mercy of a pack of wolves, but would not have forgotten.
The teacher I had at 11, was very tall, very firm, and used to throw things at people who weren't paying attention. When he smiled at them and called them "flossie" they knew they were in big trouble. Corporal punishment was still the norm, if you went home and complained you got another belting from your parents. It never stopped me misbehaving, but did make me more careful.
Hope I haven't strayed from the topic too far, please don't get the cane out. Again!
We will either find a way, or we will make one. Emperor Hannibal.
Mrs Miller taught Mathmatics . Reason I love math to this day. As for if I would do it again, I still do things the same. If I see something wrong I address it, one of my bad flaws (in a way). I say what I think, I think what I say, but sometimes I dont think before I say.
