I started playing BG1 again (decided to play out the WHOLE adventure...would have to buy ToB though...).

I have an Elven Ranger with:

STR: 18/00
DEX: 19
CON: 17
INT: 10
WIS: 14
CHA: 13

I have him up to level 5 and it's been pretty fun...if not a bit irritating because of certain...things...for example:

I loathe Xan (the Enchanter)...7 CON....7 CON?! WTF?!
He'll be lucky to get 3 HP on level up (which was the amount he got when he reached 5). He has 15 HP at level 5, and is the prime target of wolves and other baddies that like to kill weak/wounded party members. :disagree:

So after I finish BG1, I'll be importing my character into BG2...

"Do you even realize your potential?"

Oh yeah!

Got lucky and rolled 18/00 AND 91 total stat points. :D

That's pretty rare...in fact I was under the assumption that the max roll was 90 stat points.

my understanding is that depends on your class choice and it's pre-req's .... paladin gets a bit of a bonus from memory

There's no such roof. I mostly try to max total stats, as the Tome of strength will raise it to 19 anyway.

And why are you using Xan when you can use Dynaheir? Beside Xan's general coolness, of course.

but if you don't get 18/00 then the tomb will only raise a single rank in the 18 range .... 18/01-18/49, 18/50-18/74, 18/75-18/whatever .... can't remember the ranks fully

I remember the very first time I played Baldur's Gate I botched getting into the Bandit camp because I killed too many bandits. Totally screwed up the chapter and had to restart the game.

I was waiting for someone to replace him with...in this case, Safana. :devious:
And Xan is somewhat cool...except for his blatant lack of HP...15 at level 5...:disagree:

My party is now:

Winterfate - Level 6 Ranger (yup, I used my username as my character name :)).
Minsc - Level 6 Ranger
Dynaheir - Level 6 Invoker
Imoen - Level 3 Mage/ Level 6 Thief (Dual-class to Mage)
Branwen - Level 6 Cleric
Safana - Level 6 Thief (though she'll become redundant once Imoen can use her thief skills again...except for the fact she'll be able to wear the Shadow Armor, whereas Imoen can't. :D)

It's been pretty fun...been holding off of doing the main quest line; still in Chapter 4. Instead, I've been clearing out the wilderness areas; got about 5 or so left, as far as I can recall.

Ranged weapons own...bad!!! My Level 6 Ranger has 5 THACO (with the Bracers of Archery and a +1 Composite Long Bow).

Got the books of CHA and CON...so my character now has 14 and 18 respectively. :D

So, what're your guys favorite classes?

Monk, simple old monk, a loser early on, but a fricking killing machine at high levels in BGII and ToB .... just awesome

high level mages rock, and I have to have a pally for the avenger, and I love a ranger:archer kit!

Yeah, I love archers!!! It's my favorite class!

I wonder if you specialize into an Archer when you import into BG2...if so, I'm getting an Archer. :D

And once I reach BG2, I'm going to do EVERYTHING...since I skipped lotsa stuff last playthrough...to my own dismay...:(

Cool!!

So, I'm on Chapter 4 (for real now, I thought I was there already; hadn't found the documents at the Bandit Camp :)).

All I have left is to go to Cloakwood, as I've cleared out all of the wilderness areas (excepting Durlag's Tower, but I would need more xp for that :D).

Did the first quest in Ulgoth's Beard; gotta hate those stupid imprisioned mages...casting Shadow Door...:disagree:

Yeah...you can revive him in ToB right?

I've never played ToB...seriously considering not starting BG2 until I buy the exp. pack.

I used a fighter who excelled at two-weapon fighting. Usually ran around with Crom Faeyr and the Flail of the Ages, so my STR was at 25 regardless.

that's how it worked for me, Ethric :)

I love the Crom Faeyr, my cleric always dual-wielded that with the Flail of Ages as well (bear in mind that my cleric was a fighter for the first 9 levels I think (mighta been 7 .... not sure), but was a bit of a machine

:D

So, what's the best bow in BG2?
BG1 has the Long Bow of Marksmanship (which I'm using right now).

Progress: I'm on Chapter 5, exploring Baldur's Gate. (wheee!)
All other wilderness areas (excluding the werewolf island and Durlag's Tower) have been explored.

Carsomyr
Equipped Abilities:
50% Magic Resistance
Dispel magic 3 times per day

+6 damage to chaotic evil opponents in addition to other bonuses.
Dispels magic whenever the sword strikes an opponent
THAC0: +6 bonus
Damage: 1D12 +6
Damage type: slashing
Weight: 6

Proficiency Type: Two handed sword
Type: 2-handed
