LOE is getting a site upgrade. The main reason why I am doing this is to have a website in widescreen and to reflect more on both of my LOE projects: Armageddon (Might and Magic Inspired) and The Etheral Gate (Ultima Inspired).

The theme played in the background is the first grassland theme to Erthia. It is the theme to Felicia Region. It was composed by Graham Plowman. He is a composer for film, tv, games, and other media. He is going to be helping LOE with compositions, greatly appreciated. I will have more time to focus on the design. He did a really great job on this!

Thanks Variol! THat would be cool to have a cloth map, but it would involve money :( fans would have to order it off of a site and shipping fees. LOE - Is meant to be a free game and Ubisoft has granted permission to use these resources because it is a not for profit game. The only way this would work is if I had some kind of sponsor that would actually pay for the costs and ship out a cloth map for free. Would be cool though!!!

Anyways, I got some more great updates:

I finished the day and night system for LOE - Armageddon. Shops are closed after certain hour and it gets dark out. I am also partial way with the atmosphere and weather system. Message boxes are not so square anymore and blend better with the gamer. I am also using transparency effects with the shops to blend right in with the game as well. I am also adding in dungeon depth such as darkness. Basically, the further you look it gets darker.

Looks really cool, especially that big monster :) The rain would benefit from transparency and perhaps shorter drops.

Will the shop display all of the stats of the items? Like which character can wield it and damage and to hit %? Maybe with a right click?

It's looking really good. I don't know how I missed these? :|

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have been experimenting with the GUI quite a bit. I think I found it though. Since Ubisoft has granted me permission to use the graphics I am going to try and use a MM8-like GUI.

Thanks Grayface for the tips. I will definitely edit the rain accordingly.

Shops will basically show the properties of the item and I am still deciding what it will show for the character portion of the window. Unfortunately, there is no mouse support at the current moment, it is meant to be played like console. Based on what I tried with the mouse it slows the game down quite bit actually, especially in combat.

Below are some early beta shots for the MM8-like GUI I am implementing. The first one is the recent and most up to date:

Nooo! MM8 GUI is really bad as it is in MM8, but for your game it's especially unsuitable. Based on your GUI evolution I'm pretty sure the main screen should be without borders. In your previous GUI it's just right. Menus need more work and thought, but you'll definitely do better than MM8. Maybe I'll throw in some drafts/ideas.

Hey Grayface,

Thanks for the feedback. I have been struggling with GUI since the beginning of this project. The previous attempt with the GUI using a transparent system was indeed great approach.

However, I felt, I don't know if it is just me or the fact that I look at the same thing every single day when I work on this, but it felt incomplete and not really classic-rpgish similar to xeen or realms of arkania... it looked too modern for the style I am trying to go for.

Keep in mind that was just my opinion. I feel using the MM8-ish like GUI it gives a more complete and traditional feel, again IMO. However, nothing is written in stone for the GUI yet... I am sure there will be a couple more changes before LOE -Armageddon is complete. Please free to throw some more ideas at me. Feedback is very important to this project.

Realms of Arkania:

Xeen:

And this is what I was trying to do with the transparency, similar to Wizardry (in mine faces are at bottom rather then on each side) but is more modern than traditional IMO.

Another draft:

BTW, selection of the actions in the cross on the right side would be better done with color. That is, if the selected stone changed color, while the icon on it stayed the same.

Sorry for the lack of recent updates, I have been working on LOE - Armageddon behind the scenes. All of the current written quests (over 80) are now in the game's database.

I am currently in the progress of converting LOE - Armageddon from Rpg Maker VX to Rpg Maker ACE. After hands on experience with my two other projects being created with ace it is a definite must. ACE is much better engine and leaves more room for advancement on the project in the future.

Some of the advantages will include:

- Better performance and with 640 x 480 resolution (original 544 x 416)
- Up to 6 wallsets per map (original is limited to 3)
- More possibilities for animations and visuals
- Adding new skills or parameters will be much easier
- RGSS3 scripting (offers more features)
- New Scripts (generally being made only for ace these days)
- Much more!

So, I will be spending quite some time during the next little while converting LOE - Armageddon to ACE. I have a chunk of the data already converted over.

I will keep everyone posted on the progress.

Thanks Variol! Progress going well, a little delayed a bit in terms of design to the conversion from vx to ace. But the possibilities are going to be well worth it. Some of the new features in the conversion will include: random trap and event (barrels, treasure, etc) placements, and possibly monsters as well. I feel it will give more replay value.
