@JJ
As I told before I've chosen Melodia only for some memories, but I never really played with her.
As for luck, I would vote on 10 as maximum, but I'm not sure of it, that would mean 41% chance per strike, and that confirms your 2 of 5 lucky strikes.

As for negative luck... it triggers so rarely that I don't even know if I saw it ever or not.

Voted for Elleshar too. Best specialty and I like his rugged looks.

Jolly Joker wrote:That leaves Melodia. In fact, starting with a Druid a little bit of Luck can't hurt.

In the end this makes Melodia the pick of choice: with a Druid, the rational, if slightly evil pick of Eleshar loses against the pure belief in fortune. Melodia is it. For me.
Except that with expert luck, you luck is already maxed. So the specialization is like non-existent.

Any Druid can already pick up luck easily if that's what you want.

Cure is a fine spell, but once you've cured to full, more bonuses is a waste.

Druid is not magic-extreme enough to really get a lot out of Intelligence or Sorcery+Ice Bolt.

So Aeris for me.

Ellshar, because he's the only one whose special is actually useful. Pegasi special isn't all that handy (because creature specialties, in general, suck unless the +1 speed helps your movement) and the spell specialties are all lame. Starting with Curse isn't all that handy (because you probably won't get Fire Magic), but meh, better than nothing.
Go Buckeyes, Indians, Cavs and Browns!

Gem, with Her, I broke my head to get through the first Scenaries of the game, I cannot believe that no one has chosen Gem

The thing with Melodia: is it possible that selecting her as main hero helps getting better random map? That is random isn't really 100% random but selection of hero plays a role in placing items, resources, monsters, first troops... And Melodia's is more fortunate then others?

Gem is my favorite because she came from Heroes 1 & 2 and was also in 4.
Also, with her starting spell (summon boat), couldn't that be possibly the most useful spell out of these to start with for certain maps? Especially if you need it and the mage guild don't got it, you could have it with gem and transfer it to others through scholar.
Also I don't know if all druids start with a first aid tent or not, but gem does, so if the others don't that would make gem a little more attractive? Especially if you want to take her out with 7th level creature(s) to capture resources. I find that first aid tents help out mostly for creatures with high hit points, and reduces the chance of losing one.
Also Aeris would probably be the best druid for a scout.
Now if your talking about picking a druid to develop as a main hero (I guess if you want more of a challenge), my favorite would be Elleshar. Its fun to have enormous amounts of spell points, especially if you get dimension door and other 5th level spells that cost lots of spell points to cast. I used Elleshar as a carryover hero in clash of the dragons campaign one time and I think he had well over a thousand spell points.

I liked Gem in H1 and H2 but this picture.. ugh. I think Elleshar is the only one I could play without feeling itches.
