Is there any hope of technology providing easier ways to make games, so that they cost less and don't HAVE to depend on meddling moneybags who'll invariably cramp theie style? You know, made at a small budget, then advertised via word of mouth on the net, and similar.
Who the hell locks these things?

I think you misunderstood... there are plenty of games made that way, they just don't have a chance because of the big guys.

Indie developers only produce a few games, compared to the big boys (that's decent indie dev's anyway)

BioWare bought by EA...

Mmm, the only good game that got out of EA was (perhaps I'm wrong correct me if I am) black&white from it's lionhead studios.

Ha, perhaps we'll get a adjective of sim in front or behind of every game after all...
