Marketing has much more to do with how a game sells than the actual quality of the game.
that's true for most any product, from video games to wars.

From CH frontpage:
Gamasutra reports that Ubisoft saw a significant increase in revenue during the first quarter, which ended .... (bla bla). Over 570,000 units were sold for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced WarFighter, while Heroes of Might & Magic V sold through more than 350,000 units.

It will happen only if dumb luck strikes ubisoft. They will always have money as their priority, and not quality.

Well it's the devs that really matter gameplay wise.

And its ubisoft that chooses who will develop the game, whith how many resources and in what time frame,so it is their call for most.

ABLE?! I'm pretty sure Nival wasn't by my standards. Chill dude, really. I'm sure there are plenty of devs out there that could.

I'm actualy waiting fo D3 to see what .dat can do.

i think there are plenty that are able, but it comes down to a number of factors, nival could possibly be able to do justice to HoMMVI, but I doubt it

what evidence do you have that gives you such confidence?

why do you think Nival was the one to take on H5 to begin with?

Oh lets not bicker about what if.Maybe another company would do better, maybe it would do worse.Maybe nival would have done better if they had less pressure from ubi.Who knows. But I am not satisfied with the job done, and blame it mostly on ubisoft as it is the series holder.Id prefer the game bought by someone else(except for the EA).

maybe they were cheap?? not sure they have any real credentials for HoMM at all

as for other dev's .... well the jury is out on arkane, but I could suggest Obsidian, Bethesda, Blizzard, and I think Bioware are out of business (could be wrong) but if not them, if they are then the wherever the people who worked there went, at least they have a history of some quality titles

yeah.. many of the developers you mention are either going, gone, or wouldn't touch it.

moreover:

just how many PC game publishers do you think are left out there?

I highly suggest you spend some time actually taking a closer look at the state of the industry.

It's pretty sickly, and smaller pubs are dropping like flies.

the golden days of PC gaming are behind us, I'm afraid.

...at least until open licensing becomes the norm, and small developers can distribute their efforts without need for a major publisher.

I hope it happens, but it ain't gonna be soon.

i agree about the devs but you asked about good ones, and I provided some, if the deal was right they would at least think about doing it .... that is in the hands of Ubi, and sure the smaller ones are getting bought out by the EA's M$'s of this world but there are ones out there

the publishers remarks were addressed to DL, just to be clear.

I didn't ask about devs, but the one's you mention would be too expensive for Ubi to contract h5 out to.

there just isn't the influx of cash these days from investors to warrant the cost of hiring one of the bigger developers for anything short of guaranteed smash hits these days.

True, publishers arent that numerous. But small developers are,and there are those that deserve a chance at a game like this. Most of the best games did appear from complete anonymuses back then.

There is also the XNA being developed and/or already out. It is supposed to help people get games published/ect even if they are relitive nobody's. Even there most expensive add-on (which you don't neccessarily need) is $100 dollars and it is $99/year for something or other that you also do not have to have. The rest is absolutely free.
