Yeah, but they still have common attributes... like vampires feed on life force, not just flesh, and Zombies are mindless and unrelenting... whether they're dressed in science or the supernatural isn't really important.GreatEmerald wrote:Now you're just asking for it

Well ok, there are 2 types of Zombies, because of the aforementioned Ghoul mixing for NotLD...
But i guess Ethric wants more of teh Revenant type, which imo, isn't even a zombie, but a, well, Revenant (Like The Crow). Or Type O, but that could be anything, even just stupid people...

No, that's chaos, not fiction...Ethric wrote: TT: it's all fiction, dumbass. It is what you want it to be.
I mean language is just as arbitrary, but when we say it's a rose we mean something specific, even if we could call it anything else if we wanted...
Like i said about The Crow, which is an example of a type R zombie on that page, once it's too different we don't see it as a zombie any more... and it's easier to just call it something else, or use vampires...
Or you can end up distorting the word like Night of the Living Dead did, even though the director preferred the term ghouls...

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Also a Star Trek referenceThunderTitan wrote:I mean language is just as arbitrary, but when we say it's a rose we mean something specific, even if we could call it anything else if we wanted...

Sure, but if you called it "farting arse" a lot of people would wonder why...GreatEmerald wrote: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Also a Star Trek reference
And the point was that if everyone called a rose whatever they wanted then no one would be able to tell what they're talking about.
Way to miss the point...Ethric wrote:If I show you a real life rose, will you show me a real life zombie?
But lets try again... zombies are fictional, so i can do anything with them... so here's a real life zombie:
He's certainly scary and only mimics being alive.

Hehe, possibly But american superhero comics are so convoluted I assume they can't be read and enjoyed if you didn't start at age 2 to learn the mythology.Panda Tar wrote:

Well, Lichy, perhaps you ought to keep an eye on Resident Evil 6 previews? It is known (someone about echoes: "It is known...") that the game will now bring the point of view of Umbrella. Now you'll be playing with up to 4 different Umbrella units to cover up their mess at Racoon City, somewhere within the RE 2 storyline.
BUT the point is that they let the "may" word suspended in middair regarding the possibility that you can control the Bioweapons, not really saying that it'll happen, but that might happen. Given this fact, we could expect playing with a zombie perhaps or something of the sort. Not that it'll be a main issue, that is, but that's a probability of having a zombie as a character in a game. It's not that bad if you consider Nemesis as being a mutant zombie, or Tyrant. If I'm not mistaken, Tyrant was a dead man under many sort of experiments.
Oh, yes, and even in the G. R. R. Martin's book A Feast for Crows, you may accept (danger, spoiler here if you haven't read the third book) that Lady Cathelyn is now a zombie, just like Beric Dondarrion. But they are 'smart' and 'alive'. The character Coldhands is still unknown, however he can also be not normal.

Play as zombie? Speedhack plox No but seriously, sounds interesting
G.R.R. Martin books are supposed to be a good read, no? Never gotten around to it, perhaps not a bad idea. Not just for possible zombies here and there, of course.
After having watched zombie-themed series and films 4 days in a row, my dreams last night was a bit affected. Luckily I've long since become accustomed to the common monster nightmare.

These Fire and Ice books are interesting because the "magic" plot in it is not overdone and vain. It's critical and important and sinister. We have Others (ancient creatures) that kills living beings to make them zombies. We have dragons. We have sons of shadow. The strange power from the red priest Thor which I mentioned on the other thread that brings back some people (that's why they might be zombies, but they just get back thinking and living as they did, however now they'll bear scars from their death path, like an arrow wound, a throat cut - to me, this is one of the most curious features in the story) - well, if you don't mind reading the description of every single attire of the characters and also what they eat at breakfast and supper, you won't get bored.Ethric wrote: G.R.R. You always can skip lines when you see: "he was wearing a plate....... skipping lines .....fur." Or else: "to break her fast ......... skipping lines ..... belly full." The book will be 1/7 shorter. He has the urge to describe those sort of things, just like Tolken had while describing landscape.

Not really... coz what i'm objecting to is you bringing yet another off the mark meaning to the word, like it's already happened once... at some point a word loses all meaning/usefullness if it has too many possible interpretations...Ethric wrote:You sir, just get served, by the internet no less. It doesn't use the word "hotly contested" for nothing you know...
And i'm not saying you can't use the word for a generic undead which isn't a vamp or a spell caster, but that by doing it you're diluting the word... and i dislike that.
