:disagree:

Looks like Alien vs. Predator 2 will be as crappy as the first. Yippee.

"The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King":
When Pippin lights the bonfire in Minas Tirith, causing the chain of beacons to be lit up across the mountains. That scene, flying over the mountain tops, seeing the fires light up... and with that music, it just sends chills down my spine no matter how many times I watch it.
I just slipped the DVD in again just to watch that scene... Man, it's brilliant, I can just watch it over and over :)

The biggest problem with the first one was that they toned it down to PG13 for all the kiddies. You can't have a PG13 Alien movie. The fact that the decision was made just shows you everything that's wrong with the movie industry these days.

I wasn't even aware they were making a sequel.

Alien vs. Predator is actually our worst selling movie. Nobody wants it. It's been waiting to be sold ever since I started working in Blockbuster ;|

Nor was I. Haven't seen the first one, even. Frankly, I found the first movie(s) pretty all right (Alien and Predator), but the Alien movies grew bad once you got to see more of the creature. What was so good was that it was dark and hidden and mysterious. Same thing with Predator. The story was at its best when you didn't really know what you were fighting.

I just watched the trailer. At least this one will (clearly) be rated R, so that's a start.

What ruined the movei for me, even more-so, was the Queen fight where the girl was running around outside, at night, in Anartica or wherever they were. Think she would have died from that.

It was just such a god-awful movie.

Who won? And why? I won't bother seeing it, I think. I'm just guessing the aliens won due to high reproduction rates.

Well, it's not "Saving Private Ryan", I'll grant ya, but that's not the point either, is it...

no, but again it's an expectation thing I guess, if you were super hyped for it, like so many were, it's no wonder there was disappointment, I expected nothing, and saw a decent movie

Nope, tis true. Sure the dumb masses liked it, but as far as being a book-adaption of a great story, it was a mockery.

Nah, I think that overall, it's an amazing trilogy. Although I agree that the books are marvellous, I suggest keeping the books and the movies separate, as the books are part of a much greater universe, which contribute to the story. The movies are amazing standing by themselves, and should be viewed as such - and not seen as a direct creation spawned from the books. Not doing that will inveitably create a feeling of disappointment. The movies can never live up to the books, pure and simple.

you can't do a book justice with a movie, that's a fact as far as I'm concerned, but LoTR was a great trilogy of movies as far as they went

Kinda hard to not see the movies in comparison with the books, since, well, thats' the whole point...

And while you can't capture the whole of a book in a movie, you CAN try to not alter characters and plot elements to something completely different.
