You've probably seen it already, but if you want an excuse for taking a break (like you'd need one...): http://www.phdcomics.com/comics.phpCorribus wrote:Just to let everyone know, because I know how upset you all will be: I will probably be here fairly infrequently over the next 6 weeks or so. I will be defending my doctoral dissertation on August 23 and that means crunch time (and panic time) is now upon me.

You got me beat Corribus. I thought I had most people beat on education, but if you are giving a doctoral dissertation, I must acknowledge your academic superiority. Plus your dissertation is on molecular photophysics, so you got me way beat. Hail to the king, a king named Corribus.
I can't compete with a disseration, but I'm pretty close to it. I'm a law student, which explains the cosntant qualifying of everything and the lenghty posting regarding a pending lawsuit against Ubisoft awhile back. When I graduate and pass the BAR exam, I will have my juris doctorate, which is comparable to other doctorates, but nobody will call me "doctor."
Anyways, good luck on your dissertation Corribus.

About a year and a half after my old laptop blew its hard drive, I have finally been able to revive it, using a new HD. It is almost five year old, but works like a charm with a new OS installed (exchanged the old ME for a new XPpro). It took me eight (!) hours to dowload and install a total of 134 (!) accumulated upgrades from Microsoft, including the 75Mb Service Pack 2.
Point is, I now have my old laptop back, the wireless network is functional and my dad has just ordered internet access down here. So I'll soon be 24/7 again.

It's alive! It's aliiiiive moahahaaaa!!
It's quite old though:
Celeron 800MHz
256MB RAM (upgraded from 128); 64 was standard at time of purchase
15" screen...
The HD was shot, so I simply inserted in a new 30Gb one; wasn't sure if it would be compatible, but it seems to work fine..

What will I do without Corribus? The truth is, I think I'll finally go and play THUNK.Corribus wrote:Just to let everyone know, because I know how upset you all will be: I will probably be here fairly infrequently over the next 6 weeks or so. If only I could give a presentation on Heroes II, I'd be golden. Sadly, my graduate committee is probably going to be expecting something on molecular photophysics...
Just know that somewhere, someone is facing an army of 20k wolves.
Hell has frozen over...
Good to know. One of these days, Fsnort and I are going to finish those... but it might be some time yet because I'm also in the middle of purchasing a house right now (and I'm the bottleneck). Ah, if only seconds were as plentiful as sand on a beach.Derek wrote:What will I do without Corribus? The truth is, I think I'll finally go and play THUNK.
