No. It's a new word. "Gonad" means testes or reproductive glands, whereas "gonadectomy" means removal of said glands. Thus using "gonad" opens up the door for the next person to use the whole word.Caradoc wrote:This is not a derivation?Kalah wrote:gonadectomy
(second time I get the whole word...)

Actualy it should be accepted. Essential and essentialism aren't the same thing. It's as good as gonad and gonadectomy.Kalah wrote:Just so you know: "essentialism" or anything like that wouldn't have been accepted...

Whether or not they mean two different things is immaterial, according to precise reading of the rules. They DO both have the same word origin. That is, gonad. I thought we had clarified this.Kalah wrote: No. It's a new word. "Gonad" means testes or reproductive glands, whereas "gonadectomy" means removal of said glands. So they both work.7)A word cannot be strongly tied with the previous word (meaning its meaning has to completely differ from all of the previous words meanings) if its used whole(so adding a suffix ly,ing,ed,or anyone like thats isnt allowed, turning a verb into a noun,or similar is also not allowed).

isn't that technically a foreign word?stefan.urlus wrote: Juncaceae
And I'd interpret the rules as: the new word must be defined without using the one it's derived from, and there must be some real link in useage. I.e. if there wasn't any lyres, there would still be the need for a name for the lyrebird. On the other hand, if there was no gonad, there wouldn't be a need for a name for gonadectomy. Ectomy is also suffix, not a word of its own.

Exactly. If gonad => gonadectomy is allowed then the rules seem very arbitrary to me.Gaidal Cain wrote: And I'd interpret the rules as: the new word must be defined without using the one it's derived from, and there must be some real link in useage.
