It's the difference between honesty and dishonesty. Normal marketing doesn't lie, in the sense that it's open about its biases and purposes. Thus you can discount the weight you place on the opinion accordingly (ie ignore it).
In this someone is consciously lying to you, perhaps over a good period of time, in the hope of creating a false impression of an independent recommendation. That's not cool in my book but, like I said before, maybe people don't have a problem with lying for money any more? I find that weird but maybe I'm just a 23yo fogey .

I inserted numbers, they're my order. I think #1 is very dodgy, #2 is slightly dodgy and #3 and #4 little more than annoying.
