Apart from what De Rossi did in the game against the US, I can't recall seeing them doing anything really ugly. They certainly seem to have gotten past the filming we've seen them doing before. Compare with the portuguese against France- they were obviously filming half the time they got into the penalty area...Kalah wrote:It's not that they didn't deserve it; they played well. Still, I despise the Italia unsporting behaviour - everything they have brought into football the last twenty years has accumulated into a mass of... well, hate.

Viva Italia!
I agree that Italy played a much better tournament than France. France may have been able to win if Zidane would have kept his cool. Being red-carded in the last game of his career for savagely head-butting a guy in the chest, and then disgracefully walking off the field; what a horrible way to be remembered.

It is said that the Italian player Materazzi continuously insulted Zidane. They were many different stories. Lip-readers says that Materazzi said Zidane's sister is a whore, some other claim that Materazzi labeled Zidane as 'terrorist', other include insults to Zidane's mother...
Football aside, anyone who does that to me will recieve a headbutt too. IMO, it's one of the cheapest and lamest way to 'destroy' other people feelings. And from that, I don't many will still keep their cool about it. Italy did show some 'unsporting' behaviour. Even some kids having a kickabout at the backyard are much better than the Italian players.

whatever was said to him, however immature Materazzi was, Zidane as a grown up, mature man who is looked up to by many people and kids and probably has his whole country's, not to mention his teams and his own ambition for the World Cup, as well as the knowledge that this is his last game and he should go out with dignity, should defiinetly not have openly attacked another player, his own or the other team's. that alone made him more immature than Materazzi. a mature adult such as him would have had enough self control to at least keep his anger until after the match.

Yup, as soon as that bell rang he could have walked out to him and punch/kick/headbutt him. That certainly wouldn't have started a huge fight, no matter who won.soupnazii wrote: a mature adult such as him would have had enough self control to at least keep his anger until after the match.
Materazzi strikes back!

LOL. He should go for the Steal command. Although they should have given him a Taunt ability. Seems like it would have been more appropriate.
Regardless of what insults were thrown about, the head-butt was a very immature response. It was a very petty act and it showed how little control a grown man had over his emotions. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Materazzi acted in a professional manner by resorting to cheap shots. But Zidane's acts were selfish and by putting his feelings before everything else, he ended up demoralizing an already exasperated team. He should have taken it like a man, not a kid.

completely agree, omega. and i think that as a soccer player, on a soccer field, in his soccer uniform, the most violent thing that came to him naturally (aside from kicking) without having to think much about it is a headbut. he probably thought at ther time that hitting him in the head would be much less serious and maybe if he went for the chest it might get him only a yellow card. you know, spur-of-the-moment decision...

Well as he's not a martial artist, and he's more used to using his head while in the air, and he only missed by a head...stefan.urlus wrote:only by a lot TT
