Few shows are this smart, this sarcastic.. Who can come up with an episode name like "Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers" :D
It's pretty funny, but some of its episodes are just stupid(i.e. the Oprah episode from this season.) When they hit the issue on the head then they're great, but sometimes(read: too often) they get preachy.

South Park has been kinda hit-and-miss the last couple of seasons. But it's still funnnier then most of the stuff out there atm.

I'm a great fan of Animaniacs and its offspring Pinky & the Brain. I love the Simpsons, Family Guy, the South Park movie (I don't know the series that much). I love the 90's Batman animated series, and also the short-lived Sam & Max Freelance Police cartoon, based on Steve Purcell's comics. Man, this show had incredible dialogs :
Sam: Maybe it was towed.
Max: No, I think we nipped that problem in the bud when we shaved the guy at the towing yard. And his dad.

Max: I hate to see a grown marionette cry. I wish he would stop.
Sam: Me too, little buddy. But throwing him into the wood chipper might seriously jeopardize our relationship with the sponsor.

Sam: No doubt she is absorbed in high-level closed door doings concerning a matter of the utmost urgency and import.
Max: Either that, our she's taking a little potty break.
Sam: That's what I said.
I'm not a big anime fan (probably because I work in the anime business so I grew a bit sick of it), but there are still some classics I love : Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water, Lodoss War, the Twelve Kingdoms... And I'm the ultimate fan of Leiji Matsumoto (Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999...)

Yeah, he was a great character; I guess that scientology episode was a little too offending for him. "Tom, it is time to come out of the closet" :D ...

The thing with South Park is that it is not as obvious in its criticism in some episodes as others, but believe me its there most of the time. They sometimes use rather subtle allegories to give their message, ones that only people that know the issue they tackle pretty well would understand, and this is when they make their 'stupid' episodes.. Not that there are many episodes that are simply mindless, but they are actually a lot rarer than people think...

Ur just saying that.....

I haven't really watched that many anime. And I don't really remember Candy Candy (except the climbing trees part, something I still enjoy) and Sandybell well enough for comparison. And in my own defense I only liked the first series (even if Neptune and Uranus are cool).

DBZ was fun, but man, those battles dragged on.....

What has happened is that as Judge and Parker have become rich, they have drifted into becoming right-wing apologists. The Katerina episode is a recent one that comes to mind.

Who's Judge? Don't you mean Stone?

And that's not it, the other episodes weren't as funny either. They're running out of ideeas. When they do get a good one they can still bring it.

Hmmm. I Just finished watching Full Metal Panic and right now I'm watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam on DVD rental. 70's animation is so... quaint. but charming. The show ceratinly deserves it's position as a classic.

I'm still watching Hellsing OVA and Bleach as they come out, the latter of which is annoying me to no end.
Happy Millenium!
