I am cheering for Sweden and Portugal mostly, but neither of them were too impressive in thir first game. Generally I am hoping that European teams do well and they have so far.

Aaaarrrrrgggghh, I can’t believe it!!!! Japan was sooooooooo close into winning the match!! The goal that gave the Asian Champion the lead was a little fraudulent, which clearly showing Takahara lunge towards the Aussie keeper, making miss the ball into the net by Nakamura. Since the goal, Japan was much more spirited, doing more attacks and clever tactics, except that many times the player weren’t there to take the ball, which IMO one of the common mistakes Japan made in that match. Australia was furious since the beginning of the match, hammering the Japanese keeper, Kawaguchi with a string attack well plan attacks again and again. After Japan’s 1-0 lead, the attacks were less aggressive and Japan was at full spirit.

Kawaguchi himself did many splendid saves, but till the 84th minute, I thought something in his head that got better for him, which turn out to be the fatal mistake that cause Japan’s defeat. During the last few minutes, a corner/free kick (forgotten) from Australia at the side of field, Kawaguchi leap for ball, but ended up got himself wedged between two Japanese players, and Cahill scored the first and opening goal for Australia.

Japan was nervous after Cahill’s goal, which Australia took advantage and Cahill scored the second goal five minutes later. Later, another few minutes, the third goal was netted by Aloisi and sealed their victory. Both goals shouldn’t be too hard for Kawaguchi to save, but it was clear that he panicked. The Japanese were very tired at the last six minutes, which is in contrast with Australia, looking hyped up after their first goal.

On the ‘dirty’ side of the match, Australia coach Hiddick was seen pushing a Japanese official, and Aloisi was given the yellow card just a few minutes when in the game for deliberate pushing a Japanese player. Heh, are you happy now, Hiddick?

the ref was a little harsh withthe free's against the aussies thou .... i think he may have read too many japanese complaints beforehand!!!

My professional opinion is that Schwartzer was expecting another free kick as he went (rather half-heartedly) out in the area. The ref had given him a cheap one earlier. He makes a fatal mistake there. When I was in goalkeeper-school, the coach tought us that if the goalie is to leave the line at all, he is to come out as if he wants to kill the oncoming strikers. Schwartzer came hopping as if he wanted the Japanese to come in for tea.

The Aussies won because they kept fighting throughout the match while the Japanese eventually grew tired. Hiddink had saved his two best players of the day, and as soon as they entered the pitch, the game was turned.

I watched most of 2nd half of this match.
If the 1st half was anything like the second, I'm very happy to have missed it. From what I've seen so far during this World Cup, this was by far the most disappointing match.

The French team seemed to lack the will to win. They didn't make any runs without the ball - and speed of their game was .. nonexisting.

If France want any hope of getting pass group stage they have to improve a lot really, really fast.

The first half was quite entertaining, but the second was the most tedious so far in the WC.

Currently watching Brazil-Croatia. 1-0 at half time, as expected, but the Brazilians aren't dominating and being as artistic as some might have come to expect. Croatia's captain had to leave the field with an injury after an encounter with Adriano, something that will surely affect the team to some degree.

I'm Croat, and all I can say all our fans here are satisfied with the game. We showed Brazil that we can compete on the same level. The problem was unlucky but nice goal from Kaka. If we continue to play at this quality then Japan and Australia beware

Australia better not look too good. Though Japan has a tough hill to climb, but if Japan manage to draw with Brazil and win over Croatia, and Australia lose two matches, Japan's in for 16.

Germany are currently celebrating their 1-0 goal against Poland, after having hammered away at the Polish defence for 90 minutes. A minute ago, Germany hit the crossbar twice in as many seconds, and Poland defended themselves with everything they had. Just as the Norwegian commentator said "Germany surely can't come back once more before then end", Odonkor put the ball into the box and Neuville slid the ball in the net. Go Germany!

I'd say that the poles hammered quite good as well for a while. Anyway, Gary Lineker's old quote still seems to stand.
