Splitting the army.
I want to know, how to split your army in Heroes 5. For example i have 200 creatures and it will be great to split them in 100 and 100 units.
Use the shift key
Click the unit, hold down the shift key and then click a free slot.
You should get the 'splitstack' window.

Re: Use the shift key
Yep, drag'n'drop a stack while holding <shift> gives you splitting window. Like since Homm1. In Heroes V you can split also on battle screen during the tactics phase.poke53281 wrote:Click the unit, hold down the shift key and then click a free slot.

You cannot split to battlefield slots/squares. In tactic phase you still have the 7 army slots displayed and there you can split and join your armies as on adventure screen. So, yes, you need to have less than 7 different stacks to do it. And if you wish, in tactics phase you can also decide not to put all your army on field. Don't say that you have not faced a dungeon in Duel mode who hasnt joined her two witches and lizards stacks and splitter the shooters....theGryphon wrote:@ Pitsu
The latter I coulldn't manage in the Demo. Does it only work when you have less than 7 stacks?
Well how are you going to add 8th stack when there are only seven slots?theGryphon wrote:@ Pitsu

I thought we could split in the tactics allowed region on the BF, rather than a regular split. I see now. I know about pulling back the stacks, and it is so useful. Well done Nival in that department...

It is nice that you can pull your creatures back. But what is stupid is that then you cannot split them in more then 7 stacks. What if I want to put my whole army on the battlefield, but to save, lets say half of my peasants from being slaughtered? And the BF is too small. Why must you be limmited like this? Why cant you put 7 large creatures on the BF?I wouldnt mind if large creature meant extra power, but its not like that.Would you rather put one gryphon,or 4 priests on the BF?

If it makes you feel any better, you can put 7 large creatures on a seige battlefield.DaemianLucifer wrote:It is nice that you can pull your creatures back.
I thought it was interesting that in the opening video, there are 8 stacks on the field for each side. (the battle in the movie is completely done with the in-game battle engine, maybe with a few fluorishes)
