H4 campaign in progress - The Tale of Young Mudgeon

Unread postby Karmakeld » 09 Feb 2013, 19:52

I'm currently working on a campaign, and will use this topic to post infos about the campaign and each map.

It's entitled The Tale of Young Mudgeon and takes place in the world of Axeoth, build around many of the standard campaigns and expansions. It's a very story based campaign with a lot of humor and alot of references to movies and Heroes universe. Mudgeon will find himself being involved in a series of events that'll involve him with such characters (and their respective campaigns) as Gauldoth Half-Dead and Baron Von Tarkin to name a few. I'll post a little about each map, revealing bits of the story and some screenshots. During this campaign you'll play as both a good and an evil side, getting all sides of the story.

Map 1: The Apprentice.
Reaching his 18th year our hero, young Mudgeon, has finally become the apprentice of the local wizard, Vilingu. Having waited for this moment for years, Mudgeon finds himself disapointed, as he along side his studies, is given other chores. His Master has hired a group of dwarven craftsmen to construct a fence around his old castle to keep out the wild forest animals, and Mudgeon has been given the task of collecting resources for the payment. A task he feels is leaving him little time to study magic.

Win condition: Collect 60.000 gold and 50 gems and construct a Citadel within 2 months.

The first map will be upload in short time as a stand alone map, but can be aquired as a campaign map by PM me. (each map is made a single campaign, enabling the player to replay a single map or just one side of the story, without having to replay the entire campaign).

Do feel free to comment or ask any Q's about this campaign or each map.

Map 2: The Final Test.

His master, Vilingu, informs Mudgeon that he has finished this training and that he is ready to embark on his final test, before becoming a mage. Mudgeon sets out in the woods to discover how the magic of Nature works. He'll need his archery skills to catch food, and his magical abilities and skills with a sword to handle the rigors of life in the wilderness. Along his way he'll encountered the infamous Black Knight, who never surrenders and Ents (Dendroids from the old world), in the shape of Trees of Knowledge. This map will also reveal that Axeoths first put'n'take lake is located in the nation of Great Arcan. Standard Campaign Heroes will guest in this map and you'll also discover that Gauldoth Half-Dead's servant Mardor, the former commander of Vitross, believes that if a woman weighs the same as a duck, then she must ofcourse be a witch.

Win condition: Gain an understanding of nature's magic.

Map 4: The Homecoming.

(WARNING: text may contain story spoilers)

It's been years since Mudgeon last saw his parents and after having gained an understanding of how the magic of nature works, he decides it's time to return to home. But unfortuantly it's not a happy reunion. Mudgeon finds that both his master, Vilingu and his parents has gone missing. The only lead to their disaperance, is an old Ent, who under strange surcomstances recently burned out. Now Mudgeon must seek the aid of the wood elves, in hope that they might revive the Ent so it can tell him what happened. The situation only get more unfortunate, as it's turns out the elves are preparring a battle against some of their former kindsmen, now known as the swamp elves, thus they have no time to help Mudgeon revive the old Ent. This map will also feature one or two monty python references/jokes..

Among the swamp elves, will be a "new hero class" the wardancer. Highly skilled warriors, armed with swords (instead of a bow as the usual Archer class), that can, for some of them, attack up to 4 times each turn, also some have unlimited retaliation.

Map 5: Friend or Foe

The Wizard Moorgué, a former resident in the region known as the wheel, feels he lost everything in The Reckoning. Most importantly he lost his reputation and social status. On top of that, he's becomming an elderly man. To postpone death, he engages with the necromancer, Baron Von Tarkin, who has agreed to transform Moorgué into one of the undead in exchange for some services. Image

Choose Moorgué destiny, as you will be given the choice of transforming him into one of the following: A Skeleton, Zombie, Vampire, Necromancer or a Ghost. Each with class skill and (extra) abilities to match his choice.

Decades after having killed the former ruler of Korresan, Maximillian Devlos, Baron Von Tarkin one day decides to launch an attack on the nation of Channon. During the past decades the wasteland of Korresan has been divided between several warlords, and now Tarkin wants them to acknowledge him as their ruler. In the meantime, he also rechieves a rumor about a powerful book, capable of summoning an army of demons in an instant. Tarkin heads for the underground to find the book, before the other warlords, but is soon forced to realize that the small group of vampires he brought along, might not be enough to defeat the dangers that lurkes in the tunnels beneath Korresan. Tarkin will need to use his diplomacy and his necromancy skill if he is to raise an army big enough to beat the others in the race. Meanwhile war is about to break lose in Korresan.

Also find out why the region of The Wheel was poisoned and what part the poisoning had in Tarkins future plans of conquering Channon's capital, Rylos.

Map 6: The Book of Evil

Having lived in peace for years, (following the events of his campaign,) Gauldoth Half-Dead rechieved a report that a foreign necromancer had camped near Nekross' northern border. As the necromancer shows no hostility, he is allowed to wander within the borders of Nekross, after an agreement with Gauldoth. Certain events opens the oppertunity for Gauldoth to place his trusty servant, Mardor, among the troops of this necromancer. Mardor finds out that the necromancer has come looking for certain magical relics and also seems to be in the possesion of a very powerfull book. Gauldoth fears that history might not repeat itself this time, and that the necromancer might acutally be able to carry out his evil plans with that book in his possesion, so he sees no other option than to steal the book and have it destroyed. Now Gauldoth can't destroy the book himself, and he has no intention of personally seeking out a monastery, so that priests may destroy it, leaving him with his final option. Locate the young man, Mudgeon, he met in the forest near Vitross some years ago and ask him to deliver it to a monastery.

map 7: Wake the Dead

Baron Von Tarkin has commenced the siege of Channons capital Rylos, but has had to acknowledge that he is not the only one who is interested in capturing Rylos. Four other leaders from their respective nations, is fighting hard to be one who can call themselves the victor. Baron Von Tarkin has therefore ordered Moorgué and Aedth to raise thousands of skeletons within 6 months so he can crush the unexpected resistance.
Now Moorgué and Aedth has camped in an old ruin and has ordered the construction of a defensive wall around the ruin so it could function as a fortress. Ufortuantly the wall was constructed completely solid with no way of entering or leaving the fortress. So now they also need to find a way to crack open the wall, so they may march troops in and out. Now as if they weren't busy enough, a riot is about to break out among their ranks.

Chapter 8 - The Search of... Something...

Mudgeon and Gauldoth has learned that the book of evil, The Demonary, can only be destroyed in hell. Their journey has brought them to sea where they are now looking for someone who can point them in the right direction and tell them just exactly how they're gonna get to hell. In this chapter they will meet a person, who believes he might be able to help them find an answer to their question. But before he can help them, he'll just have to find a thing or two..

This map will feature a sneaking part, where you'll have to sneak into a town. If you get too close to the guards they'll might catch a glimpse of you, and will follow your footsteps, as you try to escape (trying to add some realtime gameplay to this turnbased game)

I've read over this thread before and it looks really good and that a lot of time and work was put into it. Unfortunately I don't really have the time to get into a new campaign right now.

Bones_xa, don't worry. It's not likely to be finish before 2015 ;)
At the moment I'm working on map 9 of 16. Only the first 3 maps have been fully translated and tested 100%. I also have some addings to map 1, so still a lot of work ahead of me. But if anyone is up for anything from playtesting to any kind of help (like reading through the translations and polish it) please give a shout. But it's comforting knowing that someone outhere follows this with interest :)

I'm considering making a tread, posting the main story (without side quest) along with some screen shots and custom made portrait (simular to the Books made for Legens of the Ancients). This is a looong lasting proces, and hopefully posting the story will capture some interest.

Link to the main story of this Campaign.
viewtopic.php?t=14004

As soon as the maps have been playtested, I'll upload them as Campaign files on Skydrive(?), so that those interested can play it (they're diveded into chapters). It's gonna be a while before it's all done, and this way, I can feel that something is happening. So far the first 3 maps are soon 100% done (map 1 needs minor addings and map 2 needs final test). Map 4-8 still needs testings and/or translations. And map 9 is currently being worked on. So alot is going on, even though there's still a long way yet..

as a reply to Duzeoms request for a new screenshot from this tread viewtopic.php?p=344013#344013
I now post a screenshot from map 9 (in progress)
Image

I can't deny some inspiration from Duzeoms own campaign, Megom Chronicles. Map 9 will feature a rollercoaster opening. Our heroes teamed up with a pirate in map 8, who they figured might be able to help them find a way to hell. Unfortuantly the ships crew mutenies on them. Left at sea on a raft, they soon face a tornado and wake up on a remote island. They must first locate eachother and then locate the stolen Demonary book, in order to complete their quest.

I forgot how gorgeous this game was and I see it aged very well.
Such great art style, unlike the ridicoluos H5/6 WoW cartoonfest.

If only it would support widescreen like 1360x768...
And with the passing of strange eons, even death may die.
