Ubisoft has just announced that Heroes of Might and Magic V has gone gold. The game should be in store in a couple of weeks.

Before anyone ask the question, <i>gold</i> is a "term used to describe when a piece of software (or music) is completed and written to a master disk ready to be shipped off for manufacturing."

From Wikipedia:

"The term gold anecdotally refers to the use of "gold master disc" which was commonly used to send the final version to manufacturers who use it to create the mass-produced retail copies. It may in this context be a hold-over from music production. In some cases, however, the master disc is still actually made of gold, for both aesthetic appeal and resistance to corrosion."

In any case, congratulations to Fabrice and Nival. They deserve a good rest now.

This announcement was rather sudden. Anyhow, where is the outpouring of enthusiasm? I was hoping they would've polished up the game really nicely before release, but … I sure hope there's a map editor.

The demo was version 0.9. I don't think Ubi&Nival would release a game as anything less than 1.0. So if nothing else, they've changed the numbers so it's not the same version!

You can't relese a game with a version less then 1.0, because 1.0 means that it's the gold version.

Considering that there's a couple of weeks left until it hits the stores, and that marketing probably is getting ready for the big campaign, I'd say that the chances actually are quite good that you can get that second part. Even if the above wouldn't apply, Fabrice's such a nice guy that he probably would let you get a promised second half anyway...

Almost can't believe it....I still remember when Fabrice first came to the forums and wanted us to make summaries and stuff....and now the game is done.
