Equipment with useless specials

Unread postby UndeadHalfOrc » 19 Mar 2010, 17:31

In this topic let's list some equipment that have completely pointless abilities - abilities that are usually better on other type of equipment- and are KNOWN to occur sometimes in a real game.

I'll start with this:

MM6, MM7:

Plate armor with a bonus to Intellect (Knights and Paladins don't need intellect)
Any melee weapon with "of carnage" (much better on bows)

Uhh, they only work on bows right?

I don't remember ever seeing "of carnage" melee weapons. And I've never heard anyone ever having such a weapon.

But I have seen quite a few "vampiric bows" in MM6 (even enchanted some myself), you know, the ones that are supposed to drain HPs from the target. However this doesn't actually work for a bow, as you can't use the bow at close-range. And I don't think you can drain HPs through the slipstream of an arrow...

So I guess "vampiric bows" are the most useless to me. Anyone knows if these kind of bows were disabled by some patch?

Anything with a bonus to Diplomacy(unless you're using the BDJ Chaos Conspiracy mod).
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

When I pick this axe I sell it ASAP. So it's good. For selling. :D
It gives Fire Resistanse to wielder only, but harms all the party.

I think that almost no players use Identify Monster skill in MM7 and any items for increase this skill. Everybody knows without any hints monsters stats and resistanses

well some are easy to guess, like a water elemental (resistance to water)

But some are hard, you CANT say that the Blood Titan is inmune to air magic from a distance.

But you can find it out yourself, indentify monster is a waste of skill points!

Personally I like knowing what enemies can cast.

Just found an unbreakable ring in MM9.. Of course, since items can only have one enchantment on them.... ;|

Titans are still pretty obvious. They cast air magic spells, so they're immune to air magic.. :)

You'd think Darkmoor was a ghost town, but instead there's plenty of life among the dead.

It sells for more, but I rarely run out of gold so it's kinda wasted on me.

As for skills, I find Diplomacy, ID Monster, Stealing and Regeneration useless.
My patches: MM6 MM7 MM8. MMExtension. Tools. Also, I love Knytt Stories and Knytt Underground. I'm also known as sergroj.

Yeah i do think they are useless, but without them the game look like unreal and not might and magic at all.

Stealing depends on your playstyle I guess. Personally I never use it, but I'd love to run into a situation where not having it means being unable to finish a minor quest, or you'd have to make a huge detour or have to fight guards because you couldn't steal a key, etc.. Still, I know people like to use the skill to get the control cube..
I agree about the other three though.
