H4: When good maps go bad...

Unread postby Hippotaur » 22 Nov 2009, 09:08

I am desperate for any suggestions that may help:

Another of my H4 maps is now being pronounced as "bad" by the game and won't start.

However, this time it happened AFTER I was able to start playing it.

I had touched up a map that I had played many times before. I changed it to multiplayer, added AI boosting scripts, replaced all the random monsters with ones containing revised scripts to give treasure when defeated, added 6 quest huts and some associated events/bombs, deleted some existing bombs, carved bigger holes with the cave tool in the underground, and did a lot of landscaping with groundcover.

I started the game. No problem. I started playing and had underestimated the difficulty that I had set the game on...and my hero died in the first battle on the first turn. So I loaded the map again to start over...

That's when I got the "Mapname is bad" message. I shut down Heroes and started it again...still get the "is bad" message. (I haven't yet restarted the whole computer...but don't have very high expectations that will help.)

Why in Zeus' name would a map turn "bad" after I have been able to play it and then when nothing has been done to change it except play it?!?

At least this time I can start over with the previously saved version of the map and only wasted a day working on it.

But why why why am I getting the "Mapname is bad" message? Help! :(

EDIT: After restarting the computer the map worked and am able to play it. Gives me a little insight into this problem - something about the memory probably. Still...what is this error about?

After installing WoW and Equilibris...I decided for a lark to try my "bad" map.

And wows...IT PLAYS!!!

The map I spent the entire summer of 2004 making...I finally now get to play it for the first time!

Whatever the problem was...WoW and/or Equilibris fixed it good!
