Can we play an allied game in Heroes 2?

I just got the game, and I wanted to play it hot seat with a friend, and we wanted to be allies. Is there a way to do that in Heroes 2 ?

Might vs. Magic, Good vs. Evil, and Unholy Alliance can be played hotseat as allies IIRC. The map editor will be able to tell you which players are on the same team.

Really ? Damn, I was expecting this game to have as much diversity as Heroes 3 in that aspect. too bad I guess

You can always edit your maps and make them allied...

...or you can play a free-for-all map and just agree to quit when it's down to the two of you. Allies don't get to trade things in Heroes 2 anyway, so there's functionally no difference.

The problem I see with that is that only one of the two players will see the enemies play, in his explored section of the map. The other would have to constantly check for enemies because he will not have seen them coming.

That happens in any hotseat game, whether you're allies or not. You don't share explored area like you do in Heroes 3.
