God, I hate upgrades.....

Blizzardbird?! - needs a better name, like Frostwing or something.
Death Chimera! Death Gorgon! - too forced.
Raging Berserker! - and we could also have a Fast Speedster.
Apocalypse Hydra! - just NO.

oh well, there is the "thunderbird" - not exactly a great name and the "fire bird", anyway call it whatever you like, but you get the idea...

Oh, yeah, welcome to the Forum. Have a nice stay, and try to avoid getting biten by DL (if he ever shows up again).

The suggestions aren't bad, just some of the names.

Also, please don't break any of our benches.

Yeah what happened to DL? ;| You have posted alot more than him and I thought he was the spa...erh post king here. :D

Anyway....Nice proposals there but you know we need something new then the old upgrade system, even with 3 upg and more creatures in each town, it gets repetive, a choice, choice upg system would be 10x better but harder to balance.

Oh and welcome to the boards, enjoy your stay ;)

Don't really get why the leprecauns have to be reintroduced. They were annoying when they started to pop up from everywhere with basic sommoning in HoMMIV. The best news I've heard so far about HoMMV are: no Leprecauns!!

Careful, or you'll be labelled a "everything HoMM4 is bad" person :hoo:

Anyway, it is easy to come up with a long list of creatures (I think some of these are TOO long, personally), but they need a little fleshing out. Not a lot, just a few comments.
For example (and I am only doing one level of one town for this):

Medieval town (castle, knight, haven,...): predominantly human
Level 1: peasant- weak, slow, melee, taxpayer
level 1+: militia- average, melee
level 1++a: pikeman- good defense, melee
level 1++b: slinger- poor defense, range attack

each + is an upgrade. You must choose between an "a" and "b" upgrade (only one per town). average means nothing particularly good or bad. If one aspect (speed, health, attack, defense, damage) is unusually high or low, it gets noted (lousy, poor, good, &c).
If I have time, I'll list my ideas for a new HoMM lineup in this format.

i totally agree, that's why i've tried to include at least one creature with choice upgrade in each town, also creatures may have 0, 1 or 2 levels of upgrades.

the reason i made long lists for each town is so that few creature are missing, without having too many towns. also with more choice for each town and the proper restriction on resorces, the game can be made more strategic, so early on players have to effectively choose the creatures, without the absolute choice like in heroes 4, and in late game with enough resources you can build all of them to add variety.

one creature i didn't include is the peasant because i just don't like it messing around in my shiny, well organised human army, i see no reason for the "rich and mighty" holy empire to employ them as soilders (maybe that's just me) anyway i am fine with them as a netural creature.

Preferably, i like your proposal very much. However if you can include some without upgrades[LIKE H2], it would add in some tactical atmosphere. By they way the 2 levels upgrade is great. :)
Haven Knights Rulez After clearing my garbage, i still have that garbage smell on me even after i bath several times. Only until a few days later, i know wat is the reason, im living in a garbage dump.

If you look carefully, there are some creatures that can't upgrade, e.g werewloves and trolls :-)

First of all welcome Bench breaker.

Why have you given up on HoMM V? In what sence do you mean this?

Anyway, I'm not a real fan of your proposal, though I like the chaotic upgrade thing. I'm just not a fan of the upgrade names.. anyways the ceratures them self aren't to bad.

Welcome I_Dun_hat3_CT as well, hope you have a nice stay etc. etc. Though I must attend you to the fact that you have a banner which is strictly forbidden; check the campfire for the signature rules. If you don't take away the banner yourself a modrator will do so.
Grah!

@ Benchbraker: H5 isn't even released yet and already we issue concrete suggestions for new games? Let's just see if this one is a success first, shall we? After all, if it isn't then we have probably seen the last game of the series...

@ I_Dun_Hat3_CT: According to the RT signature rules, your sig is not allowed. Please be so good as to remove same.

How about some new ideas for towns. Or should we just keep playing heroes 3 on and on with every game that comes out?

1+a+
1+b+
but that was too complicated. maybe someone else wanna try that.

By his statement i'm guessing he doesn't like the creature aligment.

And I really don't like the Graphics, damn you Warcraft 3. The game seems nice though.

By all means, use my notation. That's what I used for my notes when I came up with my HoST (Heroes of Science and Technology) idea- basically a sci-fi version of HoMM. With a couple others' input, I had 4 races set up, and a general design.
I ought to see if I still have the old file on my computer somewhere.
