Kings Bounty - Last hero spell

Unread postby taggartm » 02 Oct 2008, 12:57

I got this spell at the beginning of the game but I'm not sure what do to with it. Has anyone else played the game and know how it's useful??

I'm playing but I haven't seen that spell. And my spellbook has 11 spells and won't take any more scrolls for some reason, even though I've got that skill to level 2, which I thought would have been enough.

It seems in King's Bounty you can usually get away with just mindlessly fireballing your opponent. Until you meet a really tough battle, in which case you need to think long and hard about unconventional tactics, and suddenly all those useless spells become must-haves...

Last Hero is one of those spells. The most obvious use for it is to keep a weak, fast, high-initiative stack alive to soak up retaliations (I used it for that once in the demo against that large Robber/Marauder stack in northwest Greenwort -- almost won despite being greatly outmatched). Another use (which I haven't tried) is to soak up the attention of a large but slow stack of archers for a few rounds.

P.S.: Almost forgot to mention: Last Hero places several counters on a stack. Every round a counter is removed. However, if an attack were to wipe out that stack, instead the last member of that stack is kept alive and another counter is removed. So, if this spell were to exist in HoMM, 1 peasant could be kept alive against 500 Black Dragons for a while...

P.P.S.: Metathron, you can have as many spells as you can find no matter what level you are. However if you've picked up a dozen Helplessness scrolls, it won't let you buy any more -- the limit applies purely to scrolls. Strangely though, you can pick up as many scrolls as you want -- you'll just have to sell/drop some if you want to buy a scroll.

Thanks for the explanation!! I've been using a 'throw away' army in my troop lineup as it is. I run them across the battlefield, throw Got's Armour from the rage book on them and let the fun begin.

I've also found the Shaman to be very useful. He gives a healing totem that heals my troops each turn and a death totem that attacks the enemies in range. The enemy troops will often attack the totems before they will attack my pieces.
